1. I too wonder. I know that she is a "strong" personality, but I sure miss her.
:( It would be good to have Randi Rhodes back on the Air again ... any Net station would be fine by me.

2. Me too. I've stopped listening to Skinner, she's so boring.
Randi was annoying at times, but overall she had good stuff with actual facts to back her up.

5. During Randi's timeslot
I listen to the stream from a station that delays Ed Schulz. He's not my favorite, but he's more entertaining than Skinner.

3. I posted this yesterday from Jose Lambiet's column in the Palm Beach Post.
This was on the second page of Jose Lambiet's column. To read the many comments go to www.pbpost.com ... Also note on his site that Rush has a blonde stalker named Melanie...sigh.

Radio’s Randi Rhodes is off-the-air, AGAIN!
Posted by Jose Lambiet | Catfights, Media, Splitsville | Wednesday 18 February 2009 10:45 am Print This Post

randiChances are, it’s going to be a while until left-tipping West Palm Beach radio talker Randi Rhodes, who’s has been off the air for more than two weeks, returns behind the mike.

A nasty spill or violent attack by a crazed conservative?

Nope

Her mouth got the best of her?

Not this time.

Rhodes, who’s been heard here for more than a decade afternoons on WJNO-AM 1290, tells Page2Live that three separate lawyers told her she should quit working for syndicator Nova M.

So she walked.

“There were so many breaches of my contract it’s not even funny,” Rhodes said when asked if the company’s failure to pay for her libel insurance kept her off the air. “I’ll probably sue them. I should never have gone there.”

Even if Rhodes show originated from the JNO studios here, it was owned for the past 10 months by Arizona-based syndicator Nova M.

So happens Nova M filed for bankruptcy Tuesday.

“Oh sure, they’re dismantling that company so they don’t have to pay me, and they’ll start another one this week,” Rhodes said.

A man who answered the phone at Nova M’s headquarters would just say: “Randi Rhodes is no longer affiliated with the company.”

Nova M honchos aren’t returning calls. But a lawsuit filed by a company exec in Phoenix claims that working conditions at Nova included fights between owners, the husband-and-wife Shelly and Anita Drobny. In one instance, according to the lawsuit, a firing by Shelly was reversed on the same day by the wife.

Until Tuesday, Rhodes and Anita Drobny were going at it on their respective websites, both pointing the finger at the other without explaining what happened.

When asked if her liberal rantings got her in trouble, Rhodes said: “You’d think they knew what I did at (the liberal network) Air America.”

Rhodes moved to Nova M after she quit (or was canned from, depending whom you talk to) her sweet gig at Air America in April 2008. Her stay there wasn’t without controversy. Shortly before she was gone, Rhodes caused an uproar for calling the then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton a “whore.” She also made news in 2007 when she was seriously injured in a fall on a Manhattan sidewalk. Some said she had one too many. Others that she was attacked by a conservative. Rhodes never explained what happened.

She worked for JNO before flying to coop to Air America. She wouldn’t rule out returning there in the near future but said she received many calls from prospective employers.

“Big stations, small stations, they’re all calling,” Rhodes said. “I don’t know how long it’ll take, but I’m trying to get back on as soon as possible. It feels too weird not to be on the air in West Palm.”

For the time being, Rhodes is being replaced by , of all people,

Fox’s mouth, conservative Sean Hannity.

4. The Lull Before The Storm
The latest I've heard is Randi will be back at WJNO in Palm Beach within the next month, depending on the NovaM situation. Through a "reliable source", I'm hearing that both NovaM and AAR are in their last gasps and could be out of business within the next month. NovaM's situation is very dire which is what led Randi to leave/be pulled off the air, in the first place.

The crunch is bad...radio revenues have all but vanished and small stations and companies that were just getting by in the best of times are now unable to pay the bills. The investors also have taken a big hit...either in the money they've spent in keeping these networks going or in their other business and personal portfolios. Running a network requires not just the talent but producers, sales people, marketing, satellite time, techs...a lot of mouths to feed on few crumbs.

10. If I Wanted To Name A Name I Would
Accept this information as you will. The Drobnys...very good people...have run into difficult times and they're a major funder for MovaM. Google it...it's out there.

6. Here is a blog that gives you latest skinny on the state
of progressive talk. It is called LTR, and it is very good.

8. Looks like Jones Radio Networks are one of the few holding steady.
They do a lot of canned radio, those satellite music feeds that basically made local DJs a relic. But with the cash, they built up a talk radio wing of the business too. It includes Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Bill Press. And unfortunately, people like Neal Boortz as well. I've never heard of Dial Global, but Thom Hartmann just joined.

Randi can still get a gig, she's still a commodity. Unfortunately, her history with employers is not good. Regardless of whose fault it is, that may make some more hesitant to hire.

9. Some meltdown/no details, Frangelina's in her spot out here; funnier...
every bit as progressive & fast talking but able to frame matters of liberal import without seeking to out-and-out offend format demographics...and that's worth money these days. Just cause you use and I paraphrase 'eat shit' 'fuck you' 'blow it out your ass whore' in your routine don't make you progressive per se, if Randi wanted to be Lenny Bruce/Kathy Griffin she should have been working that angle all along imo

Bob said...Gee, she's been bashing the Right like this all along, and no reaction from management; bash a Clinton, though, and *draws finger across throat*

Well yes, but sometimes no cause bridgit says...

Ya'chew your own foot off ya'walk funny cept maybe not funny ha-ha :):(
