<snip> And in Texas, state lawyers are fighting to preserve the "pole tax," a $5 cover charge on strip clubs that's being challenged by business owners. :P http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/sns-ap-porn-tax,0,1737566.storyFor what it is worth, I think taxing porn more is not a bad idea...

1. it's a brilliant idea! |
|
Considering the revenue of that industry, if we did that on a National level it would be a big help in crawling out of this hole that Bush pushed us into

4. Not only that, but..... |
|
...what if we started taxing contributions to churches? We could make billions a year! Churches have been dodging taxes forever. I think it's high time churches be made to disclose where their income comes from and where it goes to.

last I checked, church attendance was way down. It would also put a big dent in that whole separation of church and state thing and I for one, don't want church having anything to do with my government

9. Had not given much thought to the whole tax exempt vs. church/state issue. |
|
You probably have a very good point there. I will have to think about that...

13. Churches are treated differently by being able to pay NO TAXES. IF the gov was truly neutral |
|
toward religion, they would pay their fair share. As it is, they are given special status, which is wrong.

2. The subject line is misleading. It is a POLE tax with a pun intended. |
|
I was expecting something else.

but it was quickly dropped when people started referring to it as "Tits for Tots."
And no, I am not making that up.

17. Not a bad idea. TX doesn't have a state income tax, and they could use the money |
