Democrats plan to implement the Fairness Doctrine through the back door.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Senate voted 87-11 to prevent the FCC from implementing the Fairness Doctrine anytime in the near future.

However, we did not hear about another amendment that was passed in the Voting Rights Act by a 57-41 vote.

Here is the amendment by Dick Durbin: S.Amdt. 591: To encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership, and to ensure that the public airwaves are used in the public interest.

It passed 57-41. :)

While this amendment is not the Fairness Doctrine, it does just as much as the Fairness Doctrine, and it doesn't have nearly the toxic political ramifications that the Fairness Doctrine does.

Good job, Dems.

1. This is the tack that Obama has always endorsed
Diversified media ownership will produce wider ranges of opinion.

4. Much better than the Fairness Doctrine
The fairness doctrine will at best produce a "minimal compliance" mentality

We need to not just ensure diversity of ownership but also an expanded role for community oriented media as well

with their financial woes, they might welcome the idea..

Step Two.. Auction off LOCAL stations back to LOCAL people..
