Jindal Admits Katrina Story Was False
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/02/jindal_admits_katrina_story_was_false.php?ref=fp1

Looks like the game is up.

Remember that story Bobby Jindal told in his big speech Tuesday night -- about how during Katrina, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with a local sheriff who was battling government red tape to try to rescue stranded victims?

Turns out it wasn't actually, you know, true.

(snip)

But now, a Jindal spokeswoman has admitted to Politico that in reality, Jindal overheard Lee talking about the episode to someone else by phone "days later." The spokeswoman said she thought Lee, who died in 2007, was being interviewed about the incident at the time.

This is no minor difference. Jindal's presence in Lee's office during the crisis itself was a key element of the story's intended appeal, putting him at the center of the action during the maelstrom. Just as important, Jindal implied that his support for the sheriff helped ensure the rescue went ahead. But it turns out Jindal wasn't there at the key moment, and played no role in making the rescue happen.

(end snip)

68. Only the instance with Gore was far more minor and likely was an honest mistake.
There's no way in hell Bobby told this story as an honest mistake, he told it as a way to prop up his failed ideology.

Al Gore's incident was perpetrated by the corporatemedia. In jindal's case their mission is too sweep it under their bulging rug.

I guess we'll have to Viral this admission by bobby jindal.

And I dont' think Palin is much better although she'd like to think otherwise.

Hopefully, with both having governor elections coming up, we can find strong candidates to run against them and get them both out of office before 2012. I had 8 years with a dumbass and personally I wish the republicans would find a candidate that isn't one. Why not have someone like Susan Collins or Olympia Snowe run for president? I wouldn't vote for either but if one of them won I would think at least our country is being run by someone intelligent.

What is wrong with the GOP? Do they honestly believe the entire country lives in a bubble with no access to the internet or any other means to verify his story? Didn't he consider the possibility that at least one person would do a Google, read some news articles from the time of the disaster and discover that he made it up? He was a congressman at the time, so of course, his whereabouts would have been reported in at least one newspaper!

:wtf:

It's as if the entire GOP believes anything that happened in the past is completely "erased" and they can make up their own history without anyone ever knowing!

75. Update at TPM:
Late Update: Politico's Ben Smith has updated his post with the following:

UPDATE: I'd initially misunderstood Sellers to be saying Jindal and Lee didn't meet while rescue efforts were still underway. In fact, she said, the conversation took place in the aftermath of the storm, but after the boat incident.

"Bobby and I walked into harry lee's office - he's yelling on the phone about a decision he's already made," Jindal chief of staff Timmy Teepell recalled. "He's saying this is a decision I made, and if you don't like it you can come and arrest me."

Teepell said the exchange took place in the week following Katrina, when Jindal visited Jefferson Parish multiple times.

"He was boots on the ground all the time," he said.

This doesn't seem to bear on the key question. As we said, the key elements of Jindal's story were that he was in Lee's office during the crisis itself, and that his support for the sheriff helped ensure the rescue went ahead. Neither of those things was true, it now seems.

81. Tell the lie.
Then offer a semi-silent apology.

No worries, the apology will will be forgotten. The lie will live on.

84. Jindal's Inferiority Complex
Jindal appears to have an inferiority complex. To "fit in" he switches religion to Catholic and adopts an American nickname. He has a need to overachieve so he becomes a Rhodes Scholar then runs for Congress then Governor on the "safe" ticket in Lousiana (Republican). But that is still not enough. He has to make up stories about achievement that never happened except in his own mind.

In many ways Bobbie Jindal reminds me of Richard Nixon. And we know how that worked out now, don't we.

87. Inconventient Facts: Jindal, no; but Dem. Gautreaux, YES
The main link below leads to a pretty vast compilation of info compiled by volunteers while Katrina was ongoing in an effort to locate and preserve impt. info about the unfolding crisis, and includes reports from sources ranging from traditional media to individuals actually trapped in New Orleans during the storm and ensuing flood. I remembered seeing several reports re- volunteer boats being turned back.

Main link: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... ; for much more info, go there and search for "boat" or other terms.

I found no mention at all of Bobby Jindal. On the other hand, Dem. State Senator Nick Gautreaux apparently played a key role not just in "siding" with the Sheriff but in actually organizing the volunteer flotilla.

In all the info compiled, I found no mention of Bobby Jindal in connection with rescue boats or otherwise.

This is beyond my comprehension and after spending two frustrating days trying to just get someone to let us help we've FINALLY been told we can conduct "renegade" boat rescues via the just concluded press conference that Gov. Blanco just held.

Why is this JUST NOW being allowed? Well let's start from the very beginning.

On Wednesday morning a group of approximately 1,000 citizens pulling 500 boats left the Acadiana Mall in Lafayette in the early morning and headed to New Orleans with a police escort from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department. The flotillia of trucks pulling boats stretched over FIVE miles. This citizen rescue group was organized by La. State Senator, Nick Gautreaux from Vermilion Parish. The group was comprised of experienced boaters, licensed fishermen and hunters, people who have spent their entire adult life and teenage years on the waterways of Louisiana.

Aug 31: Flotilla of rescue boats turned back

A group of approximately 1,000 citizens pulling 500 boats left the Acadiana Mall in Lafayette this morning (Weds.) and headed to New Orleans with a police escort from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department. The "flotillia" of trucks pulling boats stretched over five miles. This citizen rescue group was organized by La. State Senator, Gautreaux from Vermilion Parish. The group was comprised of experienced boaters, licensed fishermen and hunters, people who have spent their entire adult life and teenage years on the waterways of Louisiana.

The State Police waved the flotillia of trucks/boats through the barricades in LaPlace and we sped into New Orleans via I-10 until past the airport and near the Clearview exit. At that time we were stopped by agents of the La. Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries. A young DWF agent strolled through the boats and told approximately half of the citizens that their boats were "too large" because the water had "dropped during the night" and that they should turn around and go home.

We were pulling a large (24ft) shallow draft aluminum boat that can safely carry 12 passengers and had ramp access which would allow the elderly and infirm to have easier access to the boat. We politely informed the DWF agent that the local and national media had consistently reported that the water level had "risen" during the night which contradicted his statement to us that the water "was dropping" and no boat over 16ft. in length would be allowed to participate in rescue operations.

His entire party has no respect for truth, why should he be held to a different standard?
