"Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut, because sometimes a cheese sandwich is just a cheese sandwich. |

4. I fail to see how this applies. |

So people who disagree with shaming children as a means of inducing their parents to pay late bills are calling for artificially handicapping the brightest and most talented? In the movie adaptation, did I miss the scene where Sean Astin locked himself in a TV studio room to eat delicious hot lunches for hours in protest?

10. The TV adaptation was a piece of shit. |
|
Fucked up a great short story with that locked in the control room bullshit scene.
I am not sure what the OP means. If it is using Vonnegut to defend shamimg children then the OP should be ashamed.

11. Yes, but I was struck with the thought |

of Sean Astin gorging himself on ravioli and hot dogs for hours as a confused nation watched on TV, and that tickled me, so I thought I'd throw it in there. Besides, I couldn't think of an appropriately absurd comparison to the original story. Lunch boxes hanging off the dancers to weigh them down? Wouldn't make sense.

5. Gee whiz, I wonder what side of the issue comrade Vonnegut would take. |
|
Let's look at Vonnegut's "List of Liberal Crap He Doesn't Want to Hear Anymore:"
"Give us this day our daily bread. Oh sure.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those wh trespass against us. Nobody better trespass against me. I'll tell you that.
Blessed are the meek.
Blessed are the merciful. You mean we can't use torture?
Blessed are the peacemakers. Jane Fonda?
Love your enemies - Arabs?
Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. The hell I can't! Look at the Reverand Pat Robertson. And He is as happy as a pig in shit."
Emphasis mine.

19. Seems a pretty clear example of somebody completely missing the point. |
|
Like when Jindal cites Katrina for why we need a smaller government.
Or the popularity of "fight clubs" after people saw the movie "The Fight Club."
