Oakland man accused of breaking puppy's legs
Henry K. Lee, Chronicle Staff Writer
Saturday, February 28, 2009

(02-27) 17:16 PST Oakland --

An Oakland man has been charged with animal abuse for allegedly breaking the front legs of a Pomeranian puppy in front of its owner, the deaf 11-year-old daughter of his girlfriend, authorities said Friday.

Kem Eap, 31, of Oakland has been charged by Alameda County prosecutors with two felony counts of animal abuse after a 4-month-old puppy named Chloe was found with its two front legs broken on Feb. 20.

An anonymous caller told Oakland police about the incident. Police and animal-control officers found Chloe cowering underneath a television set inside an apartment on the 2000 block of Fifth Avenue near Lake Merritt. Eap was arrested the same day.

The female puppy, which weighs 4 pounds, was unable to use its front legs because both had been broken above the elbows, authorities said.

3. OMG! Yesterday headlines across AZ went something like this:
Woman crawling on freeway hit approximately 3 times;
Dad puts son in dryer turns it on and burns were pictured;
Newborn baby found gasping for air in a plastic bag. Yesterday was not a good day. I hate evil in the soul of men and women.

ever again? I'm good with a knife, and I know anatomy. He doesn't really need the use of his hands and feet, does he?

13. Kem Eap should thank his lucky stars
he was not observed in the act of abusing the puppy by me, or someone like me. One of these days the Kem Eap's of the world will do something like this, and the next thing he knows, is that he will be waking up in a hospital intensive care unit in oodles of pain from blunt force trauma and broken bones.

Normally calm, I really feel a loss of self control when I see or hear about these animal abuse cases. I saw a guy beating his dog when I lived in Louisiana and went towards him yelling until he pulled a gun on me, causing me to retreat. Animal abusers need to be beaten down hard.

15. Although it would likely involve tax dollars, I nevertheless feel
that the most appropriate response to this assault on an innocent creature would be one which invokes a fantasy realm.

Tax dollars would go to a State helicopter transport of the assailant to a remote mountainous land.

Said assailant would be let out of the helicopter. The helicopter & crew would return to California.

This would be a land inhabited by creatures similar to, but far larger and more complex than creatures in the current, real world, and would include wolves, but quite large wolves.

These wolves would be entirely like wolves of our world but would be imbued with a sense of moral purpose which is manifest in their impulse to do what is right. Call it an evolved instinct. Call it a well-honed characteristic.

These wolves would have the instinctual impulse and capacity to bring food to the assailant but would first force him to confess his transgression against the small dog in Oakland.

Again, these are large wolves. Quite large.

I believe the confession to said wolves would have a transformative effect on the assailant.

Lindsey Graham and John Cornyn would of course object to tax dollars going for fantasy justice. But in this instance, I think it would money well spent.

Thank you, and God Bless America.

18. People who torture animals are missing a "socialization chip".....
....they are probably not that far from doing the same (torture) to people.

I think they should be put on a list of "animal torturers", which is made available to the public. If they missed the "socialization" and "empathy" training during their upbringing, then they, like pedophiles, are probably unable ever to overcome this gap in "humanization". Just like repeat-pedophiles, they will always be a danger to the public, a bomb waiting to go off and mess up someone else's life. And, if they have progeny, they will probably pass their "humanization gaps" on to their children, either by genetic material or environmental conditioning.

Humans without empathy are dangerous!

26. He DID torture a person.
The puppy was the beloved pet of a little girl. He did it in front of her.

The puppy will probably recover fully. I'm not so sure about the child. :cry:

19. Omigod...I hate hearing these kinds of stories!
There was a man in my state who was just sentenced to a few years in prison for abusing a cat. It can't bring back the dead animal (or un-maim the living), but at least it shows more sensitivity towards living creatures.

23. OMG
The indignity and suffering some people intentionally inflict on other living things makes my heart ache with pain. This animal abuse and child abuse. This asshole needs to be charged with both crimes.

When I was 16 and first got my drivers license I was driving country roads to get comfortable with driving. As I came around a curve I could see a big man beating a beagle with a stick. The beagle was chained. I came to a screeching halt, jumped from the car and entered the mans' yard screaming, "if you hit that dog one more time I will kick the shit out of you." I was 6 feet tall and a huge 142 pounds; he was taller and weighed at least 250 and was drunk. He was so stunned all he could do was shout at obscenities at me as I unleashed his dog, put it in the car and drove off. It took this poor gentle creature years to not flinch and tuck his tail when I petted him. He eventually did realize only love and gentle strokes would come from me. He was so gentle that he became best friends with my pet rabbit. It was so funny to see a beagle and rabbit frolicking.
