Remember when Glenn Beck had over an hour of prime time on "CNN HEadline News"? I wrote at least 2 emails and one letter to CNN complaining about him. It's a good bet that other viewers did as well, because he's not on CNN "Headline News" anymore, Glenn Beck is now on Fox where he belongs.
None of this is a First Amendment issue.

"firing producers" was just a figure of speech, purely rhetorical.

Keep up the good work. If you see something that is wrong in your opinion (and I agree with your thought that firing the producers is wrong on the basis of the first amendment) then feel free to speak up and say something.
If the folks don't like watching Rush on CNN, they have an off switch on their TV or can change the channel. CNN has a right to put on what they desire.
That's the way it works.

35. I'm not sure what your asking. |
|
The right to make a profit? What does this mean when talking about CNN airing Rush's speech? Rush didn't ask CNN to air it, the media station decided on it's own. So, my statement is that the First Amendment protects the producers of that station (Freedom of the press) to air whatever they deem prudent. After all you do have the right to listen or not and can simply change the channel.

speech. It does not say that one's speech is guaranteed to be televised, that one must televise speech, that one will have an audience when giving speech, nor that one is guaranteed payment for, or advertising during said speech.
Nor does it protect the producers of the station from answering to the owners of the business or other "whims" of the "free market."
What you stated as reason for the producers not being held liable for their actions may have to do with business practices but not necessarily free speech as defined in the 1st Amendment.

CNN can censor itself all it wants. It was never defined who would be doing the firing of the producers. If it's the CNN owners then fine. The free market can also react to that in whatever way it wants. I admit, I assumed she was saying that CNN as a whole should be forced to make these firings due to the airing of the speech.

of the Republic Party. He's the face and body of Conservatism. He's the mind for all the ideas. He's the spirit of the sportsmanship with which the game is played. He demonstrates the morals and ethics of how you treat your worthy opponent. He sets the tone. He manufactures the standards. He is the idol of skinheads and jack-booted-thugs. He is the entertainment in the White Supremacist/Paramilitary Survivalist Compounds. He inspires the creeps that might jump and beat-up a homosexual. He inspires hate crimes. He tells his listeners to hope our President fails and therefore hope for the failure of our government and our country. He's the real deal. I'll tell you this much he does not belong on Armed Forces Radio. No one should be forced to listen to a kook fringe right-wing nut job like him. At least we are free to turn OFF CNN.

He (they) readily ADMIT(s) that they have no policy.. Their stated goal is to flummox, to irritate, to slow-down,, they are nothing more than insurgents with verbal IEDs at the ready.
Their only purpose is to thwart the will of "the people"... "the people", being the MAJORITY of the public who told THEM...."NO!.. we don't want your stale ideas", and the REBELS that remain, are intent on preventing the people from getting the things they voted FOR..
GOP is nothing more than an obnoxious band of losers who are willing to "blow things up" because they can;t have it their way anymore...even though their way is why we are in the mess we are today..

when they gave Glenn Beck a forum.(notice where he ended up?) They are Faux Jr. Wonder if they are owned by the same corporation? At least if they are this blatant about promoting Fascism, people should be able to separate the wheat from the chaff. It is the Lou Dobbs sort of commentator whom people tend to consider an objective reporter, and don't catch that he is very biased. And all that happy horse shit 'I'm a libertarian', I don't register as a Republican, I vote for the candidate regardless of party...from Beck and O'Liely. My aching' ass!
