I just found out where KO entrance music comes from. |
|
Beethoven Symphony #9. I was listening to a John Lennon demo of "If I Fell" and it advanced to the next song. I don't know why I had that on my computer, but now you know THE REST OF THE STORY.

2. Yup, and that's a good 'un. |

P.S. The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra has a very good collection of Beethoven symphonies on CD (they were at my local library).

12. I have this scratchy demo Lennon made |
|
on a cassette recorder. I love that stuff. I've got some Beach Boys harmonies without the track. Brian in the studio showing the guys their parts. Then, WHAM!

modal scale (Ionian or Dorian, I think) and Lennon's reaction was "A WHAT kind of scale?"

is also a reference to vintage NBC. During the sixties, the same piece began the nightly news. KO uses a "remix" of the section that originally appeared (in its orchestral form) at the top of the six o'clock news. So, it's really a "quote" that anchors KO in the vintage network news era, working with his ER Murrow quotes and references to add old school pedigree to his image, and connect him to the older, more serious, era of reporting.
If you were around in the sixties, you might have heard this theme on a nightly basis, and KO's quote would be instantly recognizable. I'm certain Keith himself remembers the old theme well.

30. Another piece of classical KO... |
|
the Oddball theme music he now uses is the "Bahn frei!" polka by Eduard Strauss. Which I understand Jean Shepherd used to make use of on his radio show.
The previous music he used for Oddball was the well-known "Saber Dance" by Khatchaturian.
