Poll question: Do You Listen to A.M. Radio Anymore?
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 05:52 PM by Mike 03
Yesterday morning I went online to listen to my favorite all-news station in Los Angeles (KFWB) and discovered they have gone to paid programming on the weekends. There were shows for colon cleansers and fish oil.

I DO listen to A.M. radio, but--now that I have XM and Sirius--the list of reasons why is growing shorter and shorter. The only thing I listen to nowadays are local news reports: Los Angeles stations (although I live in AZ, I used to live in L.A. and have friends there, so I keep up with those stations), and about one or two minutes a day to catch up on local news.

I used to listen to KGO radio out of San Francisco religiously, but just lost interest over the past few months. It's a great station, but I just am not listening to it much lately.

If I'm too lazy to turn on XM, I sometimes listen to "Coast to Coast AM" on A.M. radio, and sometimes for fun I listen to the health infomercials. There is one program out of Albuquerque that I listen to that is "Wall Street Journal This Morning" or something like that.

That's about it. 80% of what I listen to now is on XM or Sirius.

I also listen to the all news station every morning to get the traffic and weather reports.
Coast to Coast: my husband listens to that and says it's whacked.

Very disappointing.

Just kidding, I remember back in the 80's(?) someone was messing around with AM Stereo, I don't think it lasted.

5. I listen to a dash of AAR but mostly FM, as in our NPR affiliate.
It isn't perfect, but the snake oil ads on AM - it must be 15 min of actual content and 15 minutes of annoying ads per half hour - drive me crazy.

6. During the day, Stephanie Miller and Thom Hartmann are my favorites.
But 1150 AM seems to want to diminish their ratings on weekends and nights. It's a coin flip on what will be broadcast.

8. Tried it for awhile when we had Air America here, but it drove me crazy.
The ads were awful, but I don't deal well with talk radio in general. Even my couple attempts at a book on disc didn't go well. It feels too distracting from my driving. Now I always have a music CD playing on low volume.

The stations in my area carry only repugs, and I refuse to listen even out of prurient interest. The last time I listened regularly was back during Bill Clinton's first term: 1/2 hour of OxyRush, followed by 1 hour of Alan Colmes.

Even if there was an Air America affiliate within range, I doubt that I'd listen that often. I can no longer tolerate the format: 5 minutes of talk followed by 2 minutes of commercials (the SAME commercials repeated ad nauseam, no less. It's just too dismal for consideration.

at all, AM or FM. Since Clear Channel took over the airwaves my radios are sitting on shelves in the cellar.

Never did listen to talk radio. Only listened to music which is gone now from the airwaves.

I do listen to sirius radio on directv.

AM760 in Denver/Boulder is still up.
Starting tomorrow, they're airing Thom Hartmann in Randi's old spot.

As long as they're doing halfway listenable progressive talk, I'll listen to them.

I'll be damned if I'm going to listen to any of the right-wing stations. I refuse to give Limbaugh, Hannity or the other righttards my ears.

20. I haven't listened to AM since Canada's classical AM station switched formats
Remember when transistor radios came out? In Detroit you could hear CBC Classical, with radio plays and everything, on AM....I'm dating myself, aren't I?

FM all the way, baby. Except when the kids and I put a crystal radio together for a project.

21. I listen to KPOJ from Oregon all the time! Litterally all day & all night.
I sleep a fairly interupted sleep pattern, and actually wake up if my radio broadcast gets interupted.

Many of the AAR folks are on that station, and I love listening to all of them.

25. While getting ready for work and in the car on the way to work
I listen to the Detroit semi-progressive AM station in the morning. That would be Bill Press in my neck of the woods. I remember fondly when we had Nancy Skinner, a local heroine. I find Bill Press marginally acceptable. He's a little too inside-the-beltway for me. But it beats sports talk and the right-wing talk station. On the way home, it's that Schultz guy, again marginally palatable to me. Unfortunately my local "progressive" station wanders into religious and right-wing territory to be "balanced" on the weekends, and into local college sports at any moment. We are not well-served in Southeast Michigan, but are more fortunate than others.

33. No
The only local AM station's lineup consists of Rush, Hannity, Dr. Laura, Michael Reagan, a local conservative guy, and a local largely apolitical guy. Right-wing crap just about all the time? No thanks... And this is despite the fact that the station is located in Beaumont/Jefferson County- which voted for Gore, Kerry, *and* Obama.

Oh yeah, they do play "Coast to Coast AM"- which isn't really liberal or conservative as far as I can tell- just weird. haha
