Hagel to be visiting prof at UNO

Studying tax policy at the University of Nebraska at Omaha just got a little more interesting.
Chuck Hagel is UNO’s newest faculty member, a school leader said Thursday.
The former Republican senator has accepted a visiting professor position that will allow him to occasionally lecture on topics related to public policy, public service and international relations.
He’ll give seminars, host panels and yes, potentially pop into that tax class to offer his two cents on, say, the tax policy implications of President Barack Obama’s budget plan.
"He wants to stay engaged, he wants to stay connected to Nebraska, and he wants Nebraskans to know that," said BJ Reed, dean of UNO’s college of public affairs and community service. "This is a great way for him to do it, and it’s great for us, too."
Hagel, a 1971 graduate of UNO, is far too busy to teach a regular course on campus, Reed said.
