Last year there was much discussion about escalating food prices that left millions more people hungry. Now, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay warned of the perverse effect of falling prices of …

5. Interesting
I have only listened to half and will listen to the other half at a later time.

I was patient in my listening and then she said something that really caught my attention and I need to research further. They did research in underground biological influences from the use of BT crops. She says there was from a 17% to 35% reduction in certain organisms in the soil because of the BT effect.
One reason for the use of the BT gene was for it's ability to fight off underground insects and thus helping produce much more prolific root growth. Increased root growth should help the plant become much more efficient in the uptake of nutrients....which in turn should help a farmer to use less nutrients.....especially nitrogen. You have to have soil biology to convert nutrients into usable forms.
I just sat in on a presentation that showed conclusively that the BT plants were responding more to higher rates of fertility than the non BT. I asked how the hell that could be if we have an increase of 25-33 percent in root mass. It should in fact be the opposite. No one had an answer.......

I think she just answered my question............that is eye opening for me....
