Check out the new Tesla Model "S"
Edited on Fri Mar-27-09 07:47 AM by A HERETIC I AM

Deliveries in 2011.

Reminds me of a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano only with 4 doors;

On edit to add; My apologies if this is old news. This is the first I've seen of this model.

2. Beautiful cars
Is it a gasoline engine? What is the mileage? On my way out the door to work, so don't have time to check out link. Will come back later and read more. What's your opinion of Tesla Motors?

5. Whoa!?! Everyone would go for electric cars if they all looked like these things.
Boxey vehicles while efficient don't ignite the "I want this" gene like these things do. And need to do that if you want to get more folks into electrics.

6. Tesla is having trouble with their cost over runs
The base price listed is 50K but by the time it gets to the market in two more years the projected price will be closer to 100K.

11. They're also having problems with reliability and range
Edited on Fri Mar-27-09 08:41 AM by Xithras
BBC America's Top Gear had two Tesla's for testing (and an FCX Clarity) on last weeks episode, and it didn't go well. Both Tesla's broke during testing, they only got a fraction of the advertised range, and it took 16 hours to recharge the thing. Clarkson loved the looks and it TOTALLY blew away the other car they raced it against (a gas burning Lotus IIRC), but it was clearly not ready for prime time.

The Clarity, on the other hand, looked like something I could put in my garage today. May called it a quiet revolution and possibly the most important car in automotive history, and I tend to agree with him.

8. Their Roadster starts at $109K
At that price people won't buy it to save a few bucks on gas.

13. As expensive as they are, it is as if they are vanity vehicles...
but if they were able to produce them in large enough quantities, the price would surely fall. They would have to build them in a GM sized assembly plant to get them that cheap though.
