Boycott Circuit City for firing employees making good money and then hiring cheap labor
I usually call for boycotts of companies that give money to the Republican party and demand legislation from them.

Today I ask people to boycott Circuit City for their mistreatment of their employees by firing 3,500 of them while they made a good salary and now will hire employees to replace them and the new employees will make less of a salary.

Do not patronize a company that mistreats their workers like this. I'm going to call Circuit City and tell them I will no longer buy their products.

2. So you don't eat meat, I assume
This is standard practice for the meat industry. Smithfield, Tyson, the whole bunch of 'em. Desperately hard work at slave wages.

4. That'll be easy. I never buy anything there anyway.
From what I can tell, hardly anyone else does, either. I doubt that replacing their more experienced employees with low-wage workers will help their falling sales. However, it will probably earn the CEO a nice fat bonus!

7. Yes, the CEO will probably get a bonus. The CEO should get replaced with a cheaper one.

6. I decided to boycott CC years ago when they pushed their
stupid extended waranty on me after I bought a radio that cost less than $20. Stupid clerk snidely said "what are you going to do when it won't work?" I said I'm going to bring it right back to you and you're going to give me a new one". Stupid clerks no matter how much they're paid.

8. Those stupid clerks..
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 04:23 PM by obaman08
are required to get a quota of sales on the warranties. Fry's electronics pays some of it's employees commission primarily on the selling of those warranties, so every time they try to sell you a warranty doesn't mean their not aware that it is not necessary, it means some corporate higher up has decided that they sell a percentage of these warranties and probably in every instance, no matter the circumstance..

Another company, Citi cards, requires that when a customer calls in, the employees ask to sell something. If the employee does not sell 30 times out of 100 or so, they are reprimanded and in some cases removed from their positions..

It is a cold cruel world.

12. This particular clerk was extremely snide and I have a feeling if
it were you instead of me, you also would have been a little pissed at being talked to like you were some stupid child. I've been around a good many years and in my opinion if a company can't stand behind a product no matter who sells it with their own warranty, then I don't want the damn thing anyway because they even think it's junk.

14. People who haven't worked in those jobs have no idea..
So much pressure to complete sales that you have to push incredibly asinine warranties, or call features that the customer has no necessity for..

21. Who is trying to cheat you?
It is not the salesman that is doing it but his corporate overlords. Do you not understand the consequences to employees if they don't attempt to get you to buy these add ons. Since your so self righteous maybe you can hire these people for the 8 or 9 dollars an hour they get, because if they don't try to sell you a warranty they wont have a job!

all the features for a "Premiere" lineup even though they had only 1 line. Sick but common.

9. They were behind that "pay per view DVD" scheme, too.

http://hometheater.about.com/library/weekly/aa062199.htm

This story began in 1997 when Circuit City, along with a group of greedy Entertainment Lawyers, came up with a Pay-Per-View scheme for viewing movies on your DVD player. Called DIVX (Digital Video Express), the target audience for this format was the consumer that was more into renting movies rather than purchasing them. The intention of Circuit City and their cohorts was to undermine the Open DVD format that was taking a strong hold in the consumer marketplace and eventually supplant it with a system that could bring continuing revenues to Circuit City and their Associates every time one would sit down to watch a DVD movie.

This only gives me a legitimate excuse to never go back there again.

16. Never Spend MY Money There
However, I stopped by after the holidays looking for something for a gift I received. I wasn't going to purchase the product just needed a hands on feel to see if it was what I wanted, then I was going to order it online....

The place was a MESS, the sales staff were not helpful, and to top it off, before you left the store they had a table set up to get donations for the "war on drugs."
It was pouring down rain, and as I waited for a chance to escape I could tell that everyone that was approached to donate ALL declined.
