Could or would you become a politician? |
|
Sure the pay and benefits are top notch. But this isn't the kind of job that after 8 hours you punch a clock and just forget about it. Its on your mind every waking hour. Cameras and microphones all the time? No privacy really. Can't hardly trust no one. Some yahoo out there wanting to kill you?
Wouldn't be my cup of tea. For no amount of money.

2. I don't envy Dem pols right now, no... |
|
Having to deal with these childish hacks across the aisle and the catcalling media would suck.
Still, if you could do get one thing accomplished for the better of the nation, I think it'd be worth it.

it would be OK to be a gov. I think it would suck to be anywhere in state or local government--BORING!

|
I'd be jumping up, telling people "You're a liar! That's not what you said!"
"Show me the proof, you've lied for years."
"Are you an idiot? What the hell is wrong with you?"
I'd never make it.

5. It seems to take an enormous amount of energy |
|
to be on a campaign trail. I suppose all the cheers and applause help feed the candidates with more energy, plus, you really have to be extremely poised and let's face it, you must have a big ego as well. Plus the money...I think a lot of would-bes could never make up all the criteria.

6. No. I lack the necessary egomania and ruthlessness. |
|
Politicians, in order to get and retain power, have to throw people under the bus. Of course, whatever their political philosophy, they assure us, and themselves, that it's for the "greater good" or a "higher purpose". Which is all very fine unless you happen to be the one looking up at the bottom of the bus.

Given mine are brain-dead and senile (Bunning) or just completely feckless (McConnell), how could I be any worse? :)

8. Nope. I'd want to get things done and I'm an independent... |
|
So everybody would hate me. Nobody in office wants real bipartisanship or compromise, with the exception of the items in the following list:
* Giving themselves pay increases
There. That's the list. Sorry it was so long, but I had to type everything out...

10. having been one in college, a big definite NO |
|
I was involved for the first couple years I was in college because I wanted to "change things". What I found was a vicious dog-eat-dog group of folks that you couldn't trust. Unethical and highly pragmatic.
It did, however, provide very good insight as to the true nature of many (but not all) who enter that particular field.

Now that there's no accountability for politicians, sure. |
|
I'd do whatever I want, and it wouldn't matter as long as I lied about it.
No, and no. I've done way too many drugs way too publicly, and I would never subject my family and friends to all that bullshit.

14. I would try it, but only up to a certain level... |
|
I wouldn't try to run for president, but being a State Senator or Rep, or even a Federal House of Representative would be fine. Generally, in most political offices like this, it isn't nearly as "high profile" as executive or Federal positions, like U.S. Senators. To be honest, I want to unseat the current U.S. rep for my district, a vile Repuke named Akins. Either that, or run as State Senator.

My first official acts were to organize the annual Easter egg hunt for the kids in the village and to set about building a fire under whoever can repair the railroad crossing bed as you come into town so we don't lose a citizen or two down it some day.

There are far too many psychopathic assholes in politics these days, and if you don't have eyes in the back of your head, you'll get eaten alive.
Not just no, but fuck no. I wouldn't be able to take being subjected to 24/7 swiftboating.
