Anyone having problems resulting from having an Obama bumper sticker on your car? |
|
I have never attempted to start a thread before and hope I'm doing this correctly. (If I'm not, please let me know!)
I am planning to move back to a working class neighborhood in a medium-sized Ohio city which is in economic decline. (I've been living in a small college town nearby.) I've been reading a lot on DU about the violence aimed at progressive people committed by wacky people who listen to Glen Beck and the rest of the violence-encouraging TV and radio characters.
I am proud to keep my "Obama '08" bumper sticker on my car. My question is--does anyone think I might be attracting crazy wing nut violence? Should I remove the bumper sticker for my own safety?

|
Its usually because I'm driving for 15 miles with my turn signal on.

2. One of my Friends had his Car "Keyed" before the Election. Ordinarily I would.. |
|
...say Don't worry about it but with all the shooting crap and social unrest by (it seems) all the Wackos, I'd take the sticker off.
There's a time to be vocal and a time to be paranoid.

8. I'd get a magnet bumpersticker if I were you. |
|
There were a lot of cases after the election of car windows being smashed and keyed. Someone keyed my car once in Utah when I had a 'Kerry' sticker on it. My tire was slashed as well. Get something you can remove and take with you into the store, or workplace.

A carport fell on my car on Christmas and I had to have my hatchback door replaced, which had all 3 of my precious Obama stickers on it.

As I got out of the car I just said "What the hell do you want?" and they took off.
It was more odd than scary.

your bumper sticker was normal. As it would be in any blue place. I live in what is known as "The People's Republic of Alexandria, VA," so they're common here.
But, I wonder, and I think your concern is valid.
Safety first, and if I were in your place, I'd remove it. You can always get another one, if you get the lay of the land and realize it's friendly territory.
And, for a first thread, you did great!

7. You did your thread just perfectly! |
|
I have never had a problem with mine, plus a DemocraticUnderground sticker, plus a Darwin fish...you get the picture!
But...I live in a fairly progressive town in California, not Ohio...
Can you keep your car in a garage?
I suppose I'd see how things go, before considering whether or not to remove my sticker.
I really don't know...
Good luck!

where McCain won the majority of votes, and where there are, in the county where I work, three hate groups (2 Klan groups, one Neo-Nazi) according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Haven't had any hassles from my stickers--but then they are taped inside my back window.

12. I've got 4 of them on my pick up truck (and a DU sticker) - never a problem |
|
and this is in a pretty red area (north raleigh NC) - what I have noticed is the disappearance of W stickers, an increase in Obama stickers, and lots of honks, smiles and thumbs up. Never a single problem.

If it gets vandalized, so what. It is a chunk of metal, plastic and glass. Your values are more precious then that.

If you let them intimidate you by removing your Obama bumper sticker then they win. I for one haven't had a problem with anyone with my Obama bumper sticker, well I guess maybe the fact I live in the most progressive state, New York.

We live in a small rural village in NW Ohio. We got comments before and shortly after the election by other residents with whom we're acquainted, but no one has bothered our cars.

you're relocating. I have an Obama 08 sticker on my car and I'm in the heart of dumb ass hillbillies who sport NRA t-shirts even though their too dumb and poor to actually be dues paying members. I refuse to remove my sticker. I get thumbs up from people. If someone gives me the finger (and it's usually been some jackass in a pickup truck), I flip them off right back. The only time someone has said something to me was at Target-and I told them they're even dumber then they look. I don't have time for willfull ignorance.

I have never had trouble with anyone bothering my car with political stickers on it. Have had people I know comment to me about being Democratic after noticing them. And a fair number of honks and thumbs up for them. So I think it is probably safe to sport them in Ohio. Welcome to DU!

but I am reminded of that McCain Campaign worker in PA, that made up the story about how she got robbed by a black guy, and he carved an O in her face, because of her bumper sticker.

and have an Obama sticker. There's a Stormfront base 10 miles from my home, and our electorate voted for Boehner by a margin of 60%.
I've gotten the bird a couple of times, and a few tailgaters, but that's about it. The road rage was much worse when i lived in Los Angeles.
