Actually its more like 6pm to me. Exhausted but can't sleep. Felt good meeting some guys tonight who just got back. BTW George Bush is not a real popular guy in the 10th Mountain Division right now.

8. That is my son-in-law returning. |
|
He arrived home last Saturday evening and on Wednesday got a call he would be returning. He and my daughter were planning a wedding but with this happening they got married yesterday afternoon. It was nice and sad. He left this morning to go back to Afghanistan. Some of his men were all ready home also and some were enroute and were turned around. Some of his men never left. It would have been less cruel to have never sent him home thinking his year's tour was up. But the nice thing is that they did get married.

10. I'm so glad they were able to get married, I always wonder if being |
|
married/having children make a soldier/marine fight harder to get home safely. On the other hand, he should have been coming home permanently and we have to ask if this kind of abuse of our troops is what will tip them over the edge. I can't even imagine what those guys are going through, how emotionally draining it is to be used like that. I hope Congress' efforts to stop George Bush work, for our troops' sakes.
I'm hoping your son-in-law and daughter stay strong for each other, maybe they can splash out on an awesome honeymoon to make up for the short and sweet wedding. Something for them to look forward to and plan?

12. It is a hard day for my daughter.... |
|
but she says she dealt with it for a year so she can handle it for 4-5 months more. The wedding was wonderful but bittersweet. They just moved into the new home they bought Wednesday and she can keep busy for a bit unpacking and getting things organized.

3. Met a sad story too though |
|
Not enough for a taxi report perhaps but a striking encounter anyway. Made me realize I need to stop talking to the troops so much sometimes. I prod and fish too much occasionally and I really unwittingly made a guy bring up some memories tonight that for him may have been better left repressed for a while because I could tell he was struggling with it when he got out. I feel really guilty about this.

6. I don't think you should feel bad |
|
it must have been on his mind and it was safe to tell you cuz he won't have to wake up to you tomorrow. People who say the nation is not suffering do not understand that there are folks who suffer, like you and other cabbies, bartenders, families. There is a lot of suffering done quietly. I wonder what would happen if everone, no matter who you are, had to spend two hours a week working with returning vets?

Or should I say, she once hit me. Right in the city no less. Thing came booking out of a housing complex and into the side of my cab at about 30 mph, the deer, and me actually. It got up and ran away but I'm sure it was badly hurt. ;( In other cabbie news, one of our drivers had to beat up a customer, one of our drivers almost ran someone off the highway and we had a level 3 puking in another cab. Wish me luck because tomorrow promises to be weirder.

It's quite informative to sit back and watch people go ballistic over a house because of wealth disparity, and then miss one of the finest programs on poverty in years. Or worse, demean it because it was on 20/20. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x50813
