Progressive vs. Conservative: Does It REALLY Matter? |
|
Let me preface this by saying that I already know the answer to my rhetorical question: of course it matters.
But when our representatives in Washington turn their backs on us over such fundamental issues as torture prosecutions, Justice Department transgressions, impeachment...you name it...it seems that our voices have been muted by their indifference.
I have no sympathy for the opposition, but they could certainly say the same thing about their own representatives. The inane tea parties were to have served notice of the right wing population's disgust with the status quo in Washington, D.C., though the cartoonish atmosphere and ambivalent message made them look stupid in the process.
Until our voices are actually trumpeted in Washington...does it really matter at the end of the day what we think...or has America excommunicated its own citizenry?

The two parties have had a long run in dividing us with wedge issues.
We have more in common than we know.

2. What you say is *so* true... |

...I think we are quite possibly on the cusp of a political realignment. Many on the left and on the right are disaffected. If we ever get over the wedge issues -- race, religion, single issues like guns, gays and abortion -- we would find a lot of commonality. Basically, the root issue of the day is wealth and class. One class is robbing everyone else. If enough of us realize it, we may be able to put our differences aside long enough to deal with that issue.
