It is up to us to decide what we want to do about those that tortured? |
|
The President has started the ball rolling by releasing the memos. There is not a whole lot more he can do at this time. He cannot personally prosecute those that are guilty. It is not politically possible for him to do.
It is up to us. It is up to our Congress. Are we OK that our leaders tortured prisoners and spied on millions of Americans? What can we do about it?
Of course, the Republicans and their supporters will not agree to any punishment for those that are guilty. After all, they voted for these criminals. They have a certain degree of guilt themselves.
All that we can do is to bring out the truth. We need to bring it out gradually, step by step. We need a special investigator to find out the whole truth. It doesn't matter if he is a Republican or a Democrat or a purple Venusian, so long as the truth is put forth.
Then, it will be up to the people, all the people, to decide what kind of laws we wish to obey and which we wish to ignore. It will say a lot about our country. However, there is not a lot more that the President can do at this time.

and the truth is not a registered Democrat or Republican. The people must be exposed to the truth.

4. The ball is in our court now. |

I've contacted my Senators and Congressman. I'm also composing a letter to President Obama. I don't know if a mass rally would be a good idea, but I think some sort of mass action would help. We need to convince our representatives that we will not allow these torturers to go unpunished. Not for our sake, nor the sake of our children, their children, and so on. We owe it to our posterity to ensure proper action is take against these criminals, because if this ever happens again, WE will be the ones to blame for doing nothing.
