Before Bashing Texas Find Out WHERE Your State Stands On The Issue Of SECESSION
After watching Rachel Maddow on Thursday, she mentioned other states that are forming secession movements. 20 statesso far. So, everyone here NEEDS to know about this and that it ISN'T only Texas with this crazy notion.

From Rachel's show: Transcript

MADDOW: Who knows what might come of it. That was the governor of Texas, Rick Perry, flirting to the point of adultery with the idea of his state seceding from the union.

What the governor‘s argument has in political potency is perhaps making up for its lack of historical accuracy. The Texas Constitution does not actually grant the state the right to secede from the country. A fact that even the Texas secede organization acknowledges. But even though he‘s talking about secession generally, Governor Perry isn't actually pursuing it right now. Instead, he has endorsed legislation that just asserts Texas‘ sovereignty.

And Texas is, by no stretch of the imagination, a lone state on this issue. Oklahoma passed its own sovereignty resolution yesterday. Other states, including Arizona, Montana, Michigan, Missouri and Washington have all had similar resolutions introduced this year. There are also known sovereignty movements reported under way in at least 20 other states, including Pennsylvania, California, and Alaska—the very state whose governor, Sarah Palin, is married to a man who is twice a registered member of the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30266692/

As things stand right now it looks like Oklahoma, Washington, Hawaii, Missouri, Arizona, New Hampshire, Georgia, California, Michigan and Montana will all definitely consider sovereignty bills this year. They may be joined by Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Alaska, Kansas, Alabama, Nevada, Maine and Pennsylvania where legislators have pledged to introduce similar bills. Twenty states standing up to the federal government

New Hampshire has written the most aggressive legislation.

Here are a list of states who have passed or proposed bills to affirm 10th Amendment rights. I have not verified which bills have passed though many of them have been passed. Many of them are very new. We need to continue to encourage the states to take more specific action because of the very real dangers. I’ll try to keep this list updated with links.

This site is a batshit RWer site, so I'll only provide a link. But you should check them out :scared:

http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/lamb/090308

Another RWer site, but again you should be aware of what is going on.

http://www.rlc.org/2009/03/08/state-sovereignty-movement-hits-partisan-roadblock/

Note: I googled 2009 sovereignty movements and these are just some of the first ones that popped up, I did not verify these sites in what relationship their political leanings might be.

I urge everyone here to do as I have a google 2009 sovereignty movements, and educate yourself on this phenomenon, we should ALL be concerned about this. Not that I think it will go anywhere but we need to be informed. We are ALL in this together.

mandates than the latest kookery. I'm pretty sure it was aimed at No Child Left Behind.

Edit: I see the one in June was a House resolution. It just passed the Senate this Thursday.
It had died before, but now since all this latest stupidity, it was brought up again.

It's just a resolution and will have no power because I'm pretty sure Gov Henry won't sign it into law.

This whole "sovereignty" thing is not radical or anything like that, and (despite what some RWers might think) it has nothing to do with secession.

My state (WA) is pretty blue and it has passed a "sovereignty" bill. I doubt we are planning to secede.

42. Disagree -- it is also part of the "states rights" / "10th Amendment" RW push
Take a look at this thread, which explains that push pretty clearly:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5485092

Here is the text of the resolution which passed in Georgia:

http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2009/04/06/georgia-senate-passes-sr632-affirming-states-rights/

And, take a look at the "10th Amendment" website and you will see that they also push the sovereignty movement:
http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/

Pretty amazing, given that Bush -- and the Bush v. Gore Supreme Court majority -- gave no attention whatsoever to state rights!

But, have a Congress which is trying to remedy the economic disaster wrought by almost a decade of a republican Congress and a black man elected as president by a majority of the American people, and then the self-appointed "Masters of the Universe" have now decided that federalism is dangerous.

Just ask Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and their owner (not an American citizen BTW) ...

Perry back in spotlight
Governor's message plays well with conservatives across nation, but will it help his re-election bid?

By Jason Embry
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Thursday, April 16, 2009

A nonbinding resolution that hasn't received a vote on the floor of the Texas House is making Gov. Rick Perry something of a sensation with conservatives around the country.

It also appears to have breathed new life into Perry's re-election campaign, 31/2 months into what's been a rather rough year for him.

Perry's bounce began last Thursday when he guest-starred at a new conference touting House Concurrent Resolution 50, which says that the Legislature claims "sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States."

Rep. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, filed the resolution in February, but it hasn't budged since Speaker Joe Straus referred it to the House State Affairs Committee.

 Perry.

They are certainly wanting to do away with the Federal government.

Last night, the State House voted to almost zero out the governor's budget, mostly because of his secessionist statements.

17. Texas Gov. "Goodhair" Perry ONLY got 39% of the votes
New Hampshire’s bill actually goes so far as to lay out a very strongly worded variant of the Doctrine of Nullifcation which specifies acts by the federal government (many of them currently being proposed in Congress) which would effectively negate the Constitution and the authority of the federal government within their state.

Looks like NH has very drastic measures to over throw the US government.

20. Actually
I am surprised Florida did not make this list. Heaven knows we have enough lunatics down here that would glady welcome a chance to make Florida it's own part of Latin America, on both right and left. Hawaii does not surprise me, since it was a full blown kingdom, though Hawaiians would do good to realize that their islands are no longer as separate, and that the Haoles have become as much a part of the island as they are. Vermont wants to be part of French Canada, if Quebec ever became free, several states would try to join it, such as Maine and Vermont.

The most dangerous one is Alaska, because the AIP knows that it did not get so much as slapped on the wrist. I am sure there are liberal Alaskans, but there are many who just do not feel linked to America, because they are the same white folk that set out to kill all them Injuns, and they feel that the age of the Wild West is NOT over.

29. October 3rd, 2007 : "25 states have organizations in favor of secession"

http://gnewsworld.com/Secession

Political groups from New England and the South are joining forces to discuss how to go about legally seceding from the United States. The Middlebury Institute, based in Cold Spring, N.Y is meeting with The League of the South in a two day convention targeting how to peacefully, and legally, secede from the union. The convention begins October 3rd in Chattanooga, TN.

These two groups share very little in political opinions but both believe they should be able to secede from the United States. In fact, the Southern Poverty Law Center considers the League of the South to be a racist, white supremacist organization.

Thomas Naylor, a former Duke University Professor and the founder of a group named the Second Vermont Republic, believes that the future of the United States is "grim." He states that more than 25 states currently have organizations in favor of secession. And, he believes the numbers are growing for these groups. The Second Vermont Republic is in favor of secession.
