We are too gullible. It's precious actually, that we blindly allow ourselves |
|
to believe in everything our favorite candidates tell us. We are like people who still believe or want to believe in Tinkerbell or Santa Claus. We are good people who will always give someone the benefit of the doubt.
We want a happy ending, a peaceful world, equal rights for all and above all; the truth.
But it is for that very reason we will always be disappointed in our candidates. They may want all those things too but after the election, the reality sets in and they realize that if they want to keep their job, they have to abandon the happy ending.
I want to be angry about the bending over and grabbing of the ankles for the banking sleezebags, the abandonment of repealing "don't ask, don't tell", and the lack of motivation to bring torturers to justice.
I want to be angry - but I'm not. The kind of world I envision will not be possible in my lifetime, but even if we make a small step towards that better place - we are still in the game so it's not all bad.
We need to stop being so gullible and just accept campaign promises for what they are - empty words.

I live in the real world. I understand that politics is not only a dirty business but that it really is the art of the possible.

7. Agreed. Campaign promises rarely withstand post-election reality. |

In addition, politics is much more about compromise, barter, bullying, and begging than most people realize.

2. lol. Actually, we need to force our politicians to fulfill their promises. |
|
And make them face consequences when they don't.

5. Language about repealing "Don't ask don't tell" is back in the WH website |
|
Apparently the public reaction forced the WH to reconsider the soft language they had inserted recently: http://www.propublica.org/article/whitehouse.gov-reinserts-call-to-repeal-dont-ask-dont-tell/

about the changes that had been made. It needs to be a priority.

6. I stopped being gullible about two decades ago |
|
I'm a pragmatic Progressive who believes in measuring success in increments. Bush's slide backwards is the reason we actually have a black man in the White House now. He woke us up. So at least right now there are a few less gullible people

24. Call it what you will. But it is certain we will move into the 21st century. |
|
Some will be left behind in the 20th century and fade away. Take heart, their time is over. And they know it.

I didn't have a lot of listeners after that, or after the entire "Joe's Garage" show I did, but I had fun.

Nobody believes ANYTHING our candidates tell us. It's become so self-destructive that it's actually working against our own best interests now.
Your post is a cliche that is out of date.
What rock have you been under?

21. Well yeah - but republicans were always liars so of course no one |
|
would believe them. I do not think the democratic candidates were liars, they just did not realize that what they wanted to do couldn't be done.
Big difference there.
