1. It's because they didn't want to be bound by US law |
|
which is stupid because all foreign bases are considered US soil.
The impeachable offense that is most likely to stick to this bunch is the single handed abrogation of the Geneva Conventions.
That was one of the things this country could be most proud of and now its gone. Any US serviceman who falls into enemy hands needs to know this, that since we've violated this very important treaty, no one else will feel the need to abide by it.
It's the one thing that makes me yearn for a Christian hell for this gang of thieves and traitors.

7. Yessir we must not stop demanding that until that is the case |

I'm all for a fair Trial, an honest fair trial followed by inprisonment for the ones found guilty. I prefer no executions as I'm not in favor of the death penalty and I see hard time as a very fitting mode of punishment suitable for this crew.

2. Deny access to US Legal System |
|
As long as they are not in the US they don't get the protections of our legal system. "officially" they claim it is because of "Discovery" and the prisoners right to be given all evidence collected against them. e.g. Mr. X the mossad agent still in Afganistan says you are a terrorist.

If it was just to keep supposed terrorists from running free, there are many prisons right here in which to hold them. But they decided to build a new prison on foreign soil. And the theory goes that the foreign soil would keep the long arm of the law from stopping the detentions, or whatever else they want to do with those humans.
And so far, they're right, eh?

4. Gitmo is the most public part of the BFEE gulag. |
|
If *Co puts them on trial in our public system of 'justice,' the truth may leak out. More dots to connect = bad.

5. In a more subtle sense,..... |
|
--- It helped set a "tone" of things going on outside of normal Constitutional safeguards and principles. A boost, if you will, to the "unitary executive" atmosphere.
