If you need a pick-me-up, turn to the tenth song on the Decemberists new album, The Crane Wife. Sons and Daughters is an impossibly magnificent anthem. I cannot listen to it without tearing up, if not sobbing. It is definitely about war, but only vaguely so. What it does do, though, is make you angry about war while making you hopeful that the world can overcome what we face now. I know I am giving you little to work with, but trust me, just give it a shot.

4. I like the growling voice of Steve Earle. His " Jerusalem"

has some of the best anti war songs. Earle is one of the better songwriters out there.
