Why do Democrats keep letting this happen? |
|
They've done it again. Suddenly, whether the republican's toad president authorized and lied about torturing isn't the issue. Now the issue is all about whether Nancy Pelosi knew about it.
What we hear is "How dare she not stop us from breaking humanity's laws. What a terrible person she is to maybe know about our inhuman behavior. She is a monster because we killed and tortured."
They don't get punished. Democrats get pilloried instead.
We gotta get some new press agents.

1. You're absolutely right on. Their president tortures for eight years. |
|
Nada.
Our president begins to sort it out, all hell breaks loose.
What is that, exactly?
And that being said, we know there is tremendous pressure on Obama to let this go. Somehow, we have to keep supporting him AND have to keep the pressure up for real accountability.
That won't be easy.

We've known that they own the media since the early Clinton years.
My question is about why we haven't figured out how to deal with that. There are ways of heading off this kind of thing, of getting in front. By now we should have devised an ongoing methodology for overcoming this. Burying our heads in the sand and whining that the right owns the media isn't an answer and it won't fix the problem. I don't want to think that there aren't bright enough people in the party to get in front of the talking suits.
For instance, how about someone from out side, even the prez if it takes, getting in front of cameras and making a bigger claim like calling on Boner to stop twisting this around. Call them out. They always dissolve into frothing when confronted, like all bullies.

10. You're right. It's not news. |
|
Nor is it any secret how the right acquired the media monopoly they have. Thus, it's equally true that the left knows what to do to fix this problem. I have no idea why we haven't done it yet.
We need at least two, preferably four, left-wing billionaires to build us left-wing media empires like Rupert Murdoch did for the right. Then we need at least four, preferably ten, left wing billionaires to do what the Reverend Moon did--buy up a dying newspaper and run it at a loss for many years just to push your political agenda.
Quite obviously, the left-wing billionaires have failed us.

15. If we lack billionaires, |

we could try another method. Surely there is a way to do this other than following the republican lead.
I still favor the confrontation. News media is right wing owned, but if there is one thing right wingers love it is money. And confrontation means audience. I think Franken could be of use here. He can think on his feet and, with a little quip or two, get featured.
As far as us not getting our statements on MSM, I don't even see them often on the Wide World Internets Tubes. We use the net for elections. How about getting John Dean to head up a group to use it for rebutting republican lies and exposing neocon shenanigans?

9. The long standing mantra on this forum |
|
is that Republicans are stupid, ignorant, redneck, bible thumping Southerners. But they seem to be able to outsmart us on a fairly regular basis. Either the concept is wrong, and some Repubs are fairly intelligent or Dems are not a sharp as we would like to believe. I do not know which it is

11. Democrats, over the past 20 or so years, appear to have worked |
|
not to take a stand. It could be the result of the our party have such strong factions. Our Progressives and Liberals are very strong in beliefs. The Blue Dogs have their positions just as strong. The "Centrists" work at not taking a stand. When you do not take stands the other party can put anything they wish out there and say this is your position. Furthermore the Democrats tend to appear to hide up on the Hill. While they are lying low the GOP are all over TV with talking points and saying what they will about Democrats. The Division in our Party that everyone works so hard to hide creates a situation where a Liberal cannot go on TV. The Centrists and Blue Dogs will be howling. I will be honest I try to be fair when an occasional Blue Dog is on TV but before they are through they have said something has raises my ire. This situation gives the GOP an open field.
I get a feeling the Democrats on the Hill pay not attention to what is happening on TV. Therefore they appear clueless at times.

But it seems that the one thing we ought to be able to take a stand on is taking a stand against letting the republicans set us up. Couldn't we at least come together over that? (Of course I don't know if our newest "democratic" senator will help there.)
