Wolfram Alpha search is online

Making the world's knowledge computable

Today's Wolfram|Alpha is the first step in an ambitious, long-term project to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable by anyone. You enter your question or calculation, and Wolfram|Alpha uses its built-in algorithms and growing collection of data to compute the answer. Based on a new kind of knowledge-based computing...

1. Oh, that's funny!
I typed in a search item, and got the message: "I'm sorry, Dave, but............."

It can't do it right now, having exceeded something I don't understand.

Thanks for this - I'll try it later...............

3. Strange ..........
I typed in three well-known names. It recognized one of them.

Not an auspicious beginning, but I'm sure it'll get better. ......................

4. I fiddled with it this morning, but just for a few minutes, mostly asking questions
Edited on Sat May-16-09 06:11 PM by Mike 03
about rates and incidence of disease in one country vs another, and found the results fascinating.

I also asked about one stock or corporation's health vs the health of another.

I also entered my date of birth to see what popped up.

When I have time it will be fun to get into this in more depth, but it truly fascinates me, and so does Wolfram.

I know not everybody here appreciates the guy, but I am quite fascinated, although also quite critical, of his "New Kind of Science" work.

ON EDIT:

One amusing thing. When I punched in a question about cancer, what I got back was a map of the zodiac star symbols of "Cancer."

8. Input AAPL MSFT

Lexington Ky has 60,000 less people than Cincinnati.

Won't have anything to do with "Tastes Great, Less filling."

9. I love Firefox -
I just added Wolfram Alpha to my available search engines. It was so simple, even a compute subliterate such as I was able to do it - just go here, and scroll down: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=wolfram&cat=all
