RNC's below-the-belt shot at Pelosi
Edited on Sat May-23-09 10:50 AM by defendandprotect
She’s the 69-year-old speaker of the House of Representatives, second in the line of succession and the most powerful woman in U.S. history.

But when you see Nancy Pelosi, the Republican National Committee wants you to think “Pussy Galore.”

At least that’s the takeaway from a video released by the committee this week – a video that puts Pelosi side-by-side with the aforementioned villainess from the 1964 James Bond film “Goldfinger.”

The RNC video, which begins with the speaker’s head in the iconic spy-series gun sight, implies that Pelosi has used her feminine wiles to dodge the truth about whether or not she was briefed by the CIA on the use of waterboarding in 2002. While the P-word is never mentioned directly, in one section the speaker appears in a split screen alongside the Bond nemesis – and the video’s tagline is “Democrats Galore.”

The wisdom of equating the first woman speaker of the House with a character whose first name also happens to be among the most vulgar terms for a part of the female anatomy might be debated – if the RNC were willing to do so, which it was not. An RNC spokesperson refused repeated requests by POLITICO to explain the point of the video, or the intended connection between Pelosi and Galore.

But what isn’t open to debate is that the waterboarding conflict has been accompanied by a cascade of attacks on the speaker, not as a leader or a legislator, but as a woman.

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh radio host Jim Quinn referred to the speaker on his program as “this bitch”; last week, syndicated radio host Neal Boortz opined “how fun it is to watch that hag out there twisting in the wind.”

Rather . . . when I think of the GOP, I think of "Pussy Galore" . . . !

Grand Old Patriarchy -- sexist, racist, homophobic --

Are they going to get away with this . . .

Will we permit right-propaganda to continue to have its desired effect?

And, PS . . . not unlike their vile and vicious attacks on Prof. Anita Hill to try to suggest

she was "nutty and slutty."

Here's some contact info for the RNC/GOP

The world is watching with hope that we can totally defeat their hateful ideology.

2. Everything I've seen from them since December is "play-to-the-base"
They are grasping for a theme/meme that can a) draw their fractured party together around a common theme and b) bring in the center-right independents they lost in the last election.

Joe The Plumber didn't catch fire

Tea Bagging looked great to them, and kinda sad and pathertic to outsiders

Now, it's blame Pelosi for Torture. There are two particular House members they love to hate: Pelosi (uber liberal California woman) and Barney Frank (gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay).

We're not doing enough to make them accountable. I'm not just talking prosecution for war crimes. I mean banging themessage at every opportunity that "The GOP has the WH from 2001-2009, and had Congress from 1994-2006, so they can deny what they want, but the current economic mess, the mismanagement of the war in Afghanistan, Katrina, and the quamire in Iraq are there fault." Everytime any of that is mentioned, their lame response is "All Obama can do is look back." They talk a good game about personal accountability on social issues and welfare; it is time to turn that concept around and shove it down their throats.

5. It would be unwise to use comments that seek to
degrade women to try to degrade even the right-wing/RNC in turn.

Even if it's only throwing their insults and sexist comments back at them...

on rethinking it, it makes no sense to imitate their sexism.
