1 Million for Marriage Equality:
Watch our new "Fidelity" TV ad and sign the pledge!
The California Supreme Court's decision is extremely disappointing, but we don't have time to mourn the court's failure to restore marriage equality to California.
It's time to go on offense. To be fearless in our fight for equality. Starting right now.
We are all -- gay and straight -- working together to build a grassroots army to restore marriage equality to California.
Please sign the pledge and forward "Fidelity" to your friends!
We, the undersigned, are united in our refusal to accept a California where discrimination is enshrined in our state's constitution.

We pledge to repeal Prop 8 and restore marriage equality to California.
Join more than 700,000 Courage Campaign members ready to restore marriage equality to California. Help us reach 1 Million for Marriage Equality by adding your name now!

1. Keep that link out in view!
It ain't over. The court just sorta confirmed the people's right to make law. So we make a law that is fair and grants equality!

2. There are MUCH better petitions to sign.
Most of us in California have become immune to signature gatherers in front of stores and just walk past without paying attention. STOP DOING THAT! One of the petitions in circulation right now is the California Marriage Equality Act, which will overturn Prop H8. If you see someone gathering signatures for it, SIGN THE PETITION. That is the ONLY way it will get on the ballot.

There's another petition in circulation that will redefine ALL marriages in California as domestic partnerships. It's much more far reaching, but goes even further than the CMEA by enshrining the right of everyone to marry into every law and department across the state. If a state office has a rule regarding married people, they will be forced to rewrite it to make it sex and orientation neutral. That one is worth a signature too.

7. I'm stating that signing an internet petition doesn't do much. Signing an initiative petition does.
I don't care if someone wants to sign the Courage Campaign petition, but doing so doesn't actually have any impact on the problem at hand. Seeking out and signing the CMEA petition DOES. The CC petition puts you on their mailing list. Great, but I'm already there. The CMEA petition puts an amendment on the ballot to kill Prop H8 the same way it came into existence...at the ballot box.

10. No, but it doesn't do anything
To actually get the issue back on the ballot requires real signatures from registered CA voters, and net petitions like this, though well-intentioned, take energy away from that effort.
