That disturbance in the Force you just felt was me turning in my resignation at work |
|
That's right, I just tendered my resignation from a perfectly good job.
The only problem with this job is a lack of pay raises and promotions. I have received zero raise the last two years, and only 1% the year before that. My pay has not kept pace with the cost of living.
I got a better opportunity, and decided yesterday to accept it.
It is possible to find work even in this sucky economy. You have to be good at what you do. You have to be persistent. You have to have the courage to make a change.
So, my new position will pay $10,000 per year more than I am making now, and is 1/3 the distance from home. I should be able to ride a bicycle to work once I get established.
For anyone out there who is looking for a job, please don't give up hope. Keep a positive attitude and just keep at it.
Slackmaster out.

7. Congrats. Slack!! Maybe you will have even more time to spend on DU |

And thanks for the encouragement, I'm needing it. This is my last day. They called it an "early retirement incentive"; I call it a "highly leveraged layoff." I've trained both my replacements and I've just not been showing up the past few days. I'll go in Monday to turn in my badge and laptop and I'm done.

Congrats on the new gig. I know how you feel, even though I got a raise last year, my "employer provided" insurance has gone through the roof for the last 2 years. With no raise this year, I have what amounts to about 8% net pay cut. I'm looking, but not finding much in this area :(

Reasons abound. From psychological on your part to perceptually on theirs.

It's possible to find a job even in this economy...but you have to be good at what you do.
My girlfriend graduated from college last year with a Bachelor's in hospitality management. NOT what you'd call a growth field right now.
She interviewed at a major 4-star hotel and was hired on the spot as a supervisor. She's spent 8 months there working hard and she's slated to be promoted to assistant director of her division. They've laid off or fired more than a few managers since she's been there, but she's doing well because she's very good at what she does.
This economy makes it harder to find a decent job but, generally speaking, it can work to the advantage of sharp people who are willing to work hard.

Same thing at my former job. When I got my pink slip last year, I was sad but happy at the same time... raises were few and small,
I don't remember the last time I got cost-of-living-raise if ever.
