Saudi beheads and crucifies murder convict (publicly)
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia –

Saudi authorities beheaded and crucified a man convicted of brutally slaying an 11-year-old boy and his father, the Interior Ministry announced.

According to the statement issued by the ministry Friday, shop owner Ahmed al-Anzi molested the boy and then strangled him with a length of rope. He then stabbed the boy's father to death when the man came looking for his son.

He hid both the bodies in his shop, the statement said, adding that al-Anzi threatened police with a knife when they came to arrest him.
Al-Anzi had previously been convicted of sodomy and owning pornographic films, a crime in conservative Saudi Arabia.

Crucifying the headless body in a public place is a way to set an example, according to the kingdom's strict interpretation of Islam. Normally those convicted of rape, murder and drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia are just beheaded.

1. Sadly, given the crime committed (never mind the murder)
there will be many here at DU who will think that this is just peachy. (my prediction, loved to be proved wrong)

3. Well, having just finished watching the season three finale of The Tudors
I can see.....wait, that was some 400 plus years ago......

All that needs to be done is to keep people like al-Anzi completely separate from the rest of us for the rest of their lives.

But I wouldn't dare criticize our good and faithful allies.

Maybe pick a better target than what they do to their child rapist and killers. If you took a poll in America, I believe the endorsement of this punishment would be around 80%

There is some marketing that needs to go on in public policy. People aren't sympathetic to men who rape and kill 11 year old boys and than kill their fathers.

6. The more abhorrent the crime, the more likely that blood-lust led to conviction of an innocent.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 09:12 AM by TahitiNut
For those with reading comprehension issues, that's NOT to say this individual was innocent. It is, however, at such times that such "trivialities" get ignored. The notion that ANYTHING is a 'sufficient' punishment begs the question. Capital punishment is most prevalent among AUTOCRATIC governments ... herdsmen for authoritarian sheeple.

7. " Crucifying the headless body in a public place is a way to set an example"
Because the public have gotten so blasé about simple beheadings.

10. The Monster of America That Was Created By Bush
has really no say on issues like this.

Although many may criticise Suadi Arabia for the harsh way it executed this child rapist and murderer, the prisoner executed is still dead. America still has the death sentence and carries out executions through the electric chair and lethal injection. So he would still be dead in America. Not much difference if you are dead.

As for public executions - America made public the execution of the Head of State of a Country it had invaded.

America can not complain about violent treatment of offenders either after Abu Gharib and GITMO. It would even be hard to complain about this particular crime, when boys were being raped in order to gain "information".

That is the legacy of the Bush years. The Cesspit America dived into. With the election of President Obama, the World gave a sigh of relief that you were to climb out of it. Had McLame have been elected, he would have dived in more and swam over to the deep end.
