New poll says 58% are worried about the deficit
Then why didn't 58% vote for Gore in 2000 when we had a fucking budget surplus and we were starting to decrease the public debt for the first time since Reagan?

AMERICA IS SOOOOOOO STUPID!

2. Americans were asleep in 2000. Bush was the president everybody wanted a beer with.
Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 12:23 AM by Selatius
Americans were totally asleep at the wheel. They were and continue to be pretty uninformed and, perhaps misinformed, about a host of real issues affecting not just the US but the entire world. A republic cannot be built on an ignorant citizenry. That will only lead to failure. It will lead to tyranny. Bush could've easily ascended to dictatorship if there was another massive terrorist attack on the US. He could've pushed through laws even more draconian than the Patriot Act or suspended national elections in the name of national security.

If citizens were informed, then 2000 would not even be a contest. Gore would've smashed Bush handily, but again, we don't live in that world.

5. Firstly, that's 58% now, then, with Nadar a factor, that # was tighter...
and I'm sure the spread would have parted and undeniably so. But Gore did win the popular vote:

14. That's a good question and one I'd like to know
And to be honest The Deficit does concern me.

Why? Because it's our tax dollars and I want to make sure if we're spending ourselves into this deficit that there are responsible people watching over our money and that we don't get another Halliburton situation.

That being said -- The deficit is not as important as many other issues out there

10. Hell I am worried about the deficit
I think we are in a damned if we do or don't situation. We are already out of money and the economy doesn't look to be cranking up anytime soon. Almost all the states are in deficit situations too. I have no idea how to fix the mess we are in. Around the world there are plenty of countries in the same boat.

12. Quick answer: no one thought there would be a deficit in 2000.
Everyone was taking the great economy for granted.

Even I had no idea how bad things would get.
