This is why we can't have nice things.
I fail to understand the mentality that witholding one's vote will drive the Democratic Party further left. Now why is that? I think that presenting l yourself as part of a difficult segment of voters who cannot be relied upon to support the candidates, who may just dole out punishment or reward (who knows), who might never be satisfied, will only make an easier-to-obtain center more attractive for a party that needs to survive. Wanna know why they are courting donors you don't like? It just might be in that tell-off you gave to the fundraiser who called you. If you want a more "progressive" America, you are going to have to make more "progressive" voters who can allow a candidate to skate into office easily with their support. Threatening to walk if you candidate doesn't support what you want, but rather what the majority wants, will never be as effective as getting everyone else to want what you want. But that would require work.

20. Hmmm...
Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.

--Frederick Douglass

Too bad you weren't around to set him straight. ;)

7. There is five years worth of them if you need more.
Just go to the advanced search and look for the keyword "Nader" along with the user name "LoZoccolo". Oh that's right; you can't do that because you didn't donate.

4. Funny. That's the myth of the "left." Most people do want what "the left" wants.

5. For a centrist, you've actually made some sense over the past few years
but I can no more make sense of this than I can build a to-size replica of the Washington Monument from Silly Putty. It just keeps falling over.

16. Of course it makes sense
Organize. Nebraska, Arkansas, Montana, Lousiana, North Dakota. Believe that if you get the people the facts on your position, they will support you and force their Democrats to change.

Now he probably meant it in a sort of sarcastic way, as in nobody will ever do the work and it won't matter anyway because nobody will agree, but the basis of his comment is right. If we want some of these people to vote differently, we've got to organize better. AND we've got to speak in language the target audience can hear.

I'm a little skeptical, but if you're right, then no, I don't take issue with that.

23. He needs to work on recognizing where people really are. Left and Center are BS.
There is no "left." Anyone with half a brain and half an income is for "left" policies.

The "center" is R Lite. Instead of threatening everyone else, they need to just go consummate already. :evilfrown:

Who's to blame for all the shit we're in? Reagan Democrats, appeasers, wafflers, hypocrites, enablers.

6. How am I going to make someone who pulls in $2 million/year
"Want the same things that I want", when I only pull in $50,000/year? We're not anywhere NEAR the same in terms of the financial realm/issues/"problems/history" that they or *I* face. No common ground. Nope. None.

19. difficult segment of voters? So we should be easy, friendly voters? Yeah, it's the voters' fault.
I disagree. Maybe the candidates we don't support are candidates who do not represent us. So let's work with/for progressive candidates!
really very simple. Why would I help a candidate who wants to move my country or it's policies to the right?

21. To the extent that we at DU have any predominant "profession",
it's "straight-forward journalist" rather than "Stream of consciousness type writer". So when I see what a programmer might call "spaghetti coding", I don't spend too much time trying to figure out what the writer is trying to get at.
