50 years, this was a fashion show, running her own separate foreign policy", blah blah blah. I really can't believe how ignorant this guy is.

I just love it when people who know absolutely nothing about women have something to say about the women's movement.

I was forced to have dinner with her back in the late 70s (with 6 other people) and she is as she seems - a very sick woman.

12. What horseshit., Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if she was carrying water for BushCo.
She'd be the perfect emissary to say, ask Assad the Younger to pass on a message from the Monkey to the Supreme Leader of Iran.

It wouldn't surprise me if she was also doing some backdoor diplomacy on her swing through the region, AUTHORIZED by the administration, and 'plausible deniability' was in effect to misdirect any assumptions. After all, Condi is just hapless in the diplomacy arena--she's failed in the region, that's the consensus from the leadership over there.

That BushCo crew is so fucking unwelcome in that region that King Abdullah cancelled his state dinner here that's been planned for a year, because he doesn't want any 'guilt by association.'

27. Oh, I've no doubt that if she were carrying water, she was also doing her OWN fact-finding and
discussions, and that information will be helpful to the Democratic nominee, no matter who he, or she, may end up being.

It's common, though, to use unlikely diplomats when the shit gets ugly. Jesse Jackson has done it, so have many others.

The trick is not to 'associate' yourself with the remarks. There's no give-and-take, it's just that you repeat what you are told, without any major degree of commentary associated with the statements. You go, you sit down, and you say "George told me to ask you to call the Supreme Leader and tell him if he doesn't do 'X', that bullshit story he planted in the Russkie press will come true and the bombing starts at midnight. Could you manage that? Great, thanks. Now, let's talk about trade potential and perhaps a bit of mil-to-mil exchange after the 08 elections. We'll need concessions, and to move slowly, but it's past time you played a greater role in the region...."

At other times, a letter is delivered--like the old days.

Hell, not all that long ago, Ronnie Reagan sent a cake and a Bible (an AUTOGRAPHED Bible--geez, like he WROTE the damned thing!!! Love and Kisses, Ronnie??) to the Ayatullah Khomeini. Of course, he did that in SECRET, and hid it from Congress and the American people.

Sometimes, though, it's just easier to hide in plain sight--do a lot of public domestic carping about a member of the opposition--it allays suspicion and enables diplomacy to take place without a lot of press speculation that can interfere with delicate negotiations. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,962858,00.html

25. Wow. I can't imagine Pelosi 'carrying water' for this admin, at all.
She has as much disdain for them as we do, if not more. And why would she be getting so much heat from the admin if she was doing their bidding?

30. Believe me, it happens ALL THE TIME.
The reason for the heat, as I said, is 'plausible deniability.' Bush CANNOT talk to Assad, even if he wants to. Condi has FAILED as SECSTATE, as I said above. But he can easily send a message through Madame Speaker, while sending out his bozos to trash-talk her so that no one would suspect that this is what was happening. And Nancy wouldn't have any problem with it, for two reasons.

Patriotism, that quaint concept, and the REAL thing, not the false thing--the simple love of country and the desire for your country and people to be safe and secure--would be the first thing that motivated Madame Speaker to assist. It totally trumps politics.

The second motivator is the fact that if George says RIGHT, everyone paying attention goes LEFT. If he doesn't like you, you must be doing something right. It's a win-win for her.

33. I still don't buy it, but we're entitled to differences. I just don't see
Pelosi doing anything to enhance this admin; it's easier for me to believe she took the bull by the horns and went over there because she saw the need for someone to do so.

51. Why do any one woman's actions set back the woman's movement?
Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 03:29 PM by Nikia
I don't think that she did anything wrong, but even if she had her foreign policy actions shouldn't have any affect on the woman's movement.
I hate it when people make statments regarding some woman setting back the women's movement or some black person setting back the civil rights movement by doing something that has nothing to do with either movement, but just by being a woman or by being black or any other minority group and doing something that someone disapproves of.
