Question about Palin house link to stadium materials. |
|
Let me pose a scenario that I could see muself doing without any guilt at all.
I'm a Councelman or mayor of a small town, and we colectively decided to build a sports facility. I'm wanting to build a house at the same time, so I talk to the gen contractor and I say I will need X 2x4's, 30 windows, etc. Can we get a better deal if we put the 2 orders together? GC says yea, probably, I'll let you know. It works out great for both of us. I got a better price on my stuff & the town got a better price too. What's wrong with that idea?

1. A) Using your position of power for personal benefit |
|
Elected officials are not supposed to use their office to put money in their pockets, whether it sounds reasonable or not.

3. As a former government contracts administrator |
|
that would be highly illegal and you would spend 3 to 5 in the big house.
Even going back to the same vendor for personal business after the contract is complete is treading a thin line.
Every person I knew in contracts administration paid retail and shopped anonymously to avoid any appearance of corruption.
