Facebook preserves another bug in amber: Young Republicans Vice Chair caught laughing at ‘coon’ joke

The Vice Chair of the Young Republicans is in political hot water after being caught laughing — and seemingly endorsing — a racist “coon” joke on her Facebook page.

Audra Shay, Vice Chair of the Young Republicans, replied to a comment on her Facebook page which declared the “need to take this country back from all of these mad coons” with “You tell em Eric! lol.”

The remark was caught by John Avlon at The Daily Beast. A screenshot of the Facebook comment can be seen here. Avlon says that Shay is the most likely candidate to be elected chair of the Young Republican group.

“On Wednesday, Shay—a 38-year-old Army veteran, mother, and event planner from Louisiana who has been endorsed by her governor, Bobby Jindal—was holding court on her Facebook page, initiating a political conversation by posting that ‘WalMart just signed a death warrant’ by ‘endorsing Obama’s healthcare plan,’” Avlon notes. “At 1:52, a friend named listed as Eric S. Piker, but whose personal page says his actual name is Eric Pike, wrote ‘It’s the government making us commies… can’t even smoke in my damn car… whats next they going to issue toilet paper once a month… tell us how to wipe our asses…’”

Piker then posted again. “Obama Bin Lauden is the new terrorist,” he penned. “Muslim is on there side … need to take this country back from all of these mad coons… and illegals.”

In reply, Shay wrote: “You tell em Eric! lol.”

Shay says she was only responding to Pike’s earlier comment. “The eight-minute gap between the second post and her response strains the credibility of this defense,” Avlon writes. Shay’s original reference was to an announcement that Wal-Mart would back a Democrat-backed US healthcare bill that required employers to provide insurance for their employees.

6. Already did... Wonkette did a piece...
See status update and then subsequent comment by same vile 'friend':

http://wonkette.com/409676/young-republicans-leader-gal-thinks-its-super-funny-to-call-president-obama-a-coon-because-he-is-black

And then:
Yesterday on Facebook, an unfortunate incident occurred. An individual posted two comments on my Facebook wall, the first comment arguing against big government and the second filled with racially charged comments. I responded supporting the individual’s first post, to continue the fight against big government spending.

I was not aware of the racial comments until sometime later, when a third individual brought it to my attention. I immediately deleted the derogatory and outright disgusting comments and subsequently posted a statement on my Facebook Status stating that in no way, shape or form are the comments posted by other individuals a reflection of me or my beliefs as an American, a Veteran, a Mother or a Candidate.

I do not, now would I ever, condone that type of language or behavior. Unfortunately, my opponents have now spun a web of misconception and untruths, desperately trying to paint me as a racists. Nothing could be farther from the truth...

3. I'm telling you, the Republican Party has been racist so long they don't even realize they are.
It's when they're exposed to the light of day that they apologize for the confusion.

but why is she the vice chairman of the "Young" Republicans at 38? I realize 38 isn't old but it seems to me that she is just an "average aged" Republican.

15. LMAO, that jumped out at me too.
"Young" Republicans to me means under 30. But then this IS the party that ran John McCain last year. If they're all going to compare themselves to him, well heck, Dubya himself could be prezident of the Young Republicans!

Holy Christ, I sent Pike a friend request on Facebook with the message: “Friend me! I’m a racist cracker too!” And the fucker called my bluff and confirmed me. Now I must go unfriend him. What a douche. Him, not me.

9. Auh yes, the "Family Values" fascists
Their disdain for minorities and the less fortunate is matched only by their astonishing displays of ignorance.

Funny how the actions and rhetoric of these supposedly pious dim bulbs is diametrically opposed to the tenets of "Christianity."

13. LOL

I really shouldn't laugh. Over the past two years I've seen that only white people are the arbiters of what is racist or not, that white people can say racist things but that doesn't mean they are racist, and that the only racism that really exists is reverse racism.

11. It's the eyes.
She looks like Bachmann, Harris and Palin. Those close-set eyes that don't smile with the rest of her face.

It's like they just chuck them out from the same mold or something.
