What is about females in power that gets DU going so much? |
|
Seriously, look at our record over the past year...
Brutal attacks against and rejection of Hilary Clinton for President VISCIOUS rejection of Hilary Clinton for Vice-President VISCIOUS attacks against female running mate on the other side (Palin)
Another thing I find interesting is that all the posts on the day McSame announced Palin as his running mate talked about what a horrible choice he made, and how it destroyed his candidacy (true). Yet we spent the next few months obsessing over Palin. More articles on Palin. More articles on her family. If she was such a minor threat, why the obsession?
And now when the rest of the world has moved on from Palin for the most part, the only two entities that can't seem to get over Palin are FoxNews and DU. I'm getting a little disturbed at our reaction to female power on here.

Although I haven't anything against her at all as I tend to find that, sometimes, not always, but sometimes, many times, even, when one has that particular tag associated w/them it often means they've given credence to what is unspeakable truth in many circles for a host of obvious reasons.

Read any criticisms here about Harry Reid, Barack Obama, Newt Gingrich, or John Boehner, just to name a few? DU seems to be equal-opportunity vicious. And anyone in the public arena is pretty much fair game, whether it's blundering politicians, nitwit entertainers, or supine journalists.

Hillary was nasty as hell during the primary and deserved the lashing she received. Palin is a lunatic, nuts, off her rocker, a few cards short of a deck. So is Bachmann. You may have a few misogynists here but in general the attacks on certain women are well deserved.

Prior to Obama mathematically/functionally securing the nomination, HRC received no more bile than any other legitimate primary candidate, including Obama. After that point, however, much of DU coalesced against her, but that had nothing to do with her gender and everything to do with her trying to tear down our presumed nominee for the sake of whatever personal gain she thought she could muster.

Palin has been on every possible show you can imagine. She has drug her trashy family problems out in front of us until we were sick of seeing and hearing her. The pregnant daughter, the kicking out the baby daddy, the on again off again speeches, the David Letterman incident the non quitting quitting, and on and on.
I don't think the attacks on Hillary Clinton here were vicious. Some of the attacks on BILL Clinton probably went over the line but you could make a case that he brought it on himself.
The rest of the world has not moved on from Palin. She won;t let them. She managed to appear on CNN today in fishing waders and tell us again how quitting is not something a quitter might do.

|
HRC was not the any more the subject of brutal attacks as other primary candidates until she went well past the point where she could actually win the nomination. At that point, people rejected how she was doing business, and that bled into their opinions of her being a VP nominee.
DU has largely been supportive of HRC as Secretary of State and HRC as a Senator. Not to mention that we've been largely supportive of Sotomayor for SCOTUS. As such, your hypothesis is nothing more than vapid BS.

36. She might have been a minor threat to us, but she was a major |
|
symptom of a major problem in that other party. Her function in whipping up hate at her rallies needed to be addressed, as well as her ignorance and provinciality and total unsuitableness to high national office.
I didn't see people attacking her looks or taste in clothing (although her overpriced makeover on campaign donor dollars was a big issue, as it should have been) or age, all of which are signs of sexists attacks. If one was wise enough to hide GD:P, one saw amazingly little of that.
I'm terribly sorry if many posts pointing out a female candidate's obvious, serious flaws and what those flaws meant for the men who chose her upset some people who see attacks against any woman for any reason being equal in tone.
Your concern is duly noted, in other words.

44. It's not their gender. Sometimes they are the ones who are persistent |
|
in staying in front of the camera. Sometimes it's good for us. Sometimes it's over the top.
Sometimes it's ridiculous and they keep on giving. Men, also.
Sometimes it's because the cause is worthwhile. Men, also.
Generally, between genders, I feel women often have more public ethics and more guts to work towards what is good for the people. Men seem to need and depend on male support and they don't cross the line in the bar room of acceptability. They are very dependent on the pat on the back from other males.
What can you say about Sarah, Michelle Bachmann, Kathryn Harris, Ann Coulter. They thrive on attention, even when it becomes a joke to many. Same for Rush, O'Reilly, Sanford, Craig types.
I don't think you can compare Palin to H. Clinton. Palin makes everything so personal while asking for more attention. H. Clinton takes political stands that some don't like.

50. She represents all that I despise |
|
I am always glad to see Palin trashed. She represents all that I despise in the world, the most anti-female political goals in existence this side of the Taliban. She is the female trojan horse, some woman all these men want to get their hands on whose real goal is to destroy women's power in all aspects of their lives. She represents someone who believes in witchcraft, her religion promotes witch hunters in Africa. Who are the frequent recipients of attacks and accusations of witchcraft? Women! Her church is bat-shit crazy and so is she, but we are supposed to respect that.
I am more concerned with the powerless women that Palin seeks to destroy like women in need of reproductive health care, girls who need sex education to protect themselves and not end up like Bristol Palin, women who had been raped then asked to pay for the rape kit; than I am women "in power". Maybe having a "woman in power" matters more than women's rights to some, but not to me. In fact, that's what the Republicans were betting on when they put Palin on the ticket, that women would sell their souls and their basic rights in order just to see a woman in power. Palin represents the ignorance that republicans attribute to women in general in this country.
There is also the fact that she did nothing but shake her ass to get anywhere. She is the beauty queen that was worshipped in high school who other girls (the ones who actually studied now and then) would have loved to have smacked across the face.
This woman doesn't deserve respect, bash away!
