Clinton: Costa Rican to mediate Honduras crisis
20 minutes ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is announcing that Costa Rican President Oscar Arias will serve as international mediator in the Honduran political crisis.
Clinton made the announcement Tuesday at the State Department after meeting privately with ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya.
She said Zelaya as well as the politician who took over as defacto Honduran leader, Roberto Micheletti, agreed to the Arias role as mediator. She said Arias would work on the problem from Costa Rica, not in Honduras.
Clinton also called on all parties to refrain from further violence in an effort to resolve the political crisis.

2. This better not drag out.
If the coup leaders are to be believed, there is little reason to not bring down the hammer now and make them scream financially. A couple days of negotiations is fine, but if they are adamant about not allowing Zelaya's return and acknowledging that the coup was unconstitutional, then there's little to negotiate and it's time to apply maximum pressure.

3. In international relations this is the way I think this will play
so far I have been redying the tea leaves

1.- The coup leaders realize the hemisphere is not happy

2.- They also realize that this cannot be sustained

3.- Negotiations will go into all saving face, and where to live for the coup leaders, nobody will go to jail here, regardless how we feel.

4.- Zelaya will come back but to very early elections.

And all will be happy and things will go back to "normal" Suffice it to say that the society will be left very divided, but the signal to the elites will be clear. This is no longer tolerated.

This is different from situation normal and only time will tell how different it is.

4. I think that you may be right. The compromise will make Zelaya a puppet of the Congress and the
Supreme Court and Roberto Micheletti will return to preside over the Congress, once again making him the de-facto leader because they will limit Zelaya to cutting ribbons in exchange of dropping charges of high crimes and misdemeanor against the Honduran Constitution. Elections will be called early, probably in 60 days or so and Zelaya will return to his ranch in Olancho and rightist National Party Presidential candidate Porfirio Lobo will win comfortably.

5. No Micheleti is looking for new property in Miami
they will have early elections to the presidency, lower and upper chamber... that is what I smell coming.

They may even allow for the referendum, as long as it is spelled in black and white that this does not allow zelaya to run. It already does, but that's beside the point

But the save face, means that the coup leaders will be looking for new property in Miami, probably in little cuba
