1. Needs a "I didn't/don't give a shit either way" option.

18. Amen to that!

I liked some of his music, think he was a gifted dancer and musician, believe he had a shitty childhood (and feel sorry for him because of that), and think he was less than a model citizen.

I just don't think his passing meritted the kind of news coverage it received. Would have liked to see that amount of public tribute paid to Carl Sagan or Tip O'Neill or Paul Wellstone, or even George Carlin, when they died.

2. You need a third category -
"I didn't care about him before, but since he died, I've begun to hate him"

3. Other:
No real emotion about MJ, I'm just sad about our national public discourse.

They better plant that poor guy before he starts to smell.

How about a third choice:
don't care. Seriously, I certainly didn't love him, and hate is something I reserve for a chosen few. I rarely thought about Michael Jackson when he was alive, and then only when something he did got the media in a hysterical frenzy.

8. I liked his music.
I liked the way he danced. I liked how he had a passion for charity work.
I liked how he seemed like he was a good father. I liked how he seemed to have had a good heart and spirit.

RIP MJ

25. Bad decision.
Never defended that move.
But from all other accounts, it seemed like he was a good Dad.

10. Hate is an awful strong word
I would just say that I am sick of the hype and idol worship 24/7.

Americans are easily persuaded.

11. I can't say I loved or hated him. I did love his music and respected his talent.
I had his CD's and listened to them often. I also loved that he gave to so many charities. That's my take on it.

26. I didn't "love" Michael Jackson, but I LOVED his music!
I didn't know MJ so I can't say I "loved" him, but his music brought me a lot of pleasure throughout the years.

27. 3rd option: I like his music, but suspicious of his personal life.
I bought "I want you back" on 45. I bought Thriller. At Disney World, Captain EO was a special event to me. Musically, I have to say that I didn't see much from Jackson since "Black and White". I will always love his music, however...

It seems pretty clear that he was a child molester. That he was able to get away with it (if you count paying out $25 million as a bribe not to testify getting away with something) doesn't take away the fact that there was a very clear PATTERN of behavior and it was something this side of the movie "Chinatown". (coincidentally directed by Roman Polanski)

OJ Simpson was acquitted, but when he dies I think we know what people are going to say/write about his innocence. That he was not convicted of murder won't change that. Still, I LIKED OJ Simpson as a football player and as an actor in those "Police Squad" movies.

I, for one, am strangely able to divorce "a person" from his deeds. Like the law, I'm able to also separate deeds from one another. If Hitler wrote Beethoven's 9th Symphony, I'd still think it was a great piece of music.

One deed does not mitigate the other, however, and in cases it makes things WORSE, if a good deed is intended to disguise a bad one.

So, until the stories start pouring out, and I think they will, I'm able to celebrate the GOOD things about Michael Jackson. I won't be surprised, nor will I be in denial, however, come the day when other things come to light.
