Today, Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen will break $300,000,000 Domestic box office
And over $607,000,000 worldwide, and that is in 14 days. This is spite of the uptick in Michael Jackson CD and music sales. It is estimated the total box office could exceed ONE TRILLION DOLLARS when the theatrical run is over.

I for one had a rollicking good time seeing it this past Sunday, and will return AGAIN to see it.

Shia LaBeouf is greatly appreciated by young women.

There may be a small percentage that go to see Shia but I think the appeal of the movie has more to do with the special effects.

7. Let's ask a question, just because YOU don't like her, but millions of
pre- and pubescent boys do, why is it a problem. If you really think it's all about Megan Fox, go see it, you'll be very suprised. Oh and her large boy magnets don't pop out once during the movie.

23. My 12 year old son convinced me to take him yesterday. 2.5 hours I'll never get back.
I thought the original was a bit cheesy, but it was OK overall. This sequel merely proves that bigger isn't always better. Gratuitous ass shots, cursing robots, a plot so thin and ephemeral that even the director seemed to forget about it at times, and a climax that was so stupidly edited that I heard several other people in the audience openly wonder whether Bay failed basic geography (since when are the freaking pyramids in JORDAN?!?!!)

Guns, explosions, tits and ass, and rah-rah militarism. Woo.

And can someone tell me why a couple of 40 foot tall cybertronic robots capable of transforming into death machines and destroying entire populations can't outrun an 18 year old kid in a freaking footrace? I mean....seriously!

but confirms my theory that Americans will buy pure shit. Last summer, Dark Knight, at least had some depth of character. This movie looks completely and totally vapid. Expect Hollywood to turn out more of this shit in the future.

edit to add that it's at 19% on rotten tomatoes.

27. I have yet to see it....
I didn't even go see the first one in the theater instead I rented it when it came out on DVD. I'm a fan of transformers but the first movie just wasn't all that great imo and from what I've read in the reviews neither is the second one. I don't know what it is but I just didn't enjoy the first one, the characters were just too silly. Something about it just turned me off to the film and I don't think the second one is worth it.

28. (Putting on flamesuit.) I hated this movie for several reasons.
I did not see the first Transformers.

My two teens (son age 13 and daughter age 17) and Mr. Overall wanted to see it because they liked the first one. I went with them because I didn't want to spend the evening alone.

The opening scene is half of Megan Fox's naked ass straddling a motorcycle, then we move to dogs humping each other and humping other items. The main male character's mother is a bumbling dimwit.

Then there are two robots mimicking African American dialect that borders on racism in my opinion. They are also bumbling and dimwits.

Obama is mentioned as being the President and the "intellectual" guy the president sends to help out the military against the bad robots is ridiculed and dumped from a jet in the desert.

The majority of the action is in Egypt and the Middle East and it's like an hour of watching ancient Middle Eastern things exploding and being destroyed while camels are running around and Middle Easterners are looking dazed and confused.

The aircraft carrier fighting against the robots is called the USS Stennis (which is a real aircraft carrier), so all of the military scenes felt like "join the army" propaganda. There were also references to how the pentagon knows more than the president's office about how to really get the job done destroying the bad robots.

There were lots more boobs and asses flopping around.

I just hated it.

Ok, beat the shit out of me.

34. I grew up with the toys and loved them: 1st movie was just OK, this movie was awful.
Michael Bay REALLY ratcheted-up the violence, language, and 12-year-old boy humor. I mean, really, "I'm underneath the enemy's scrotum." is right up their with "Oh, it's you." and "I have a bad feeling about this." for pure cringe-inducing dialogue. And the racist "rice-tuner" twins? At one point, I turned to my friend whom I went to the movie with after we were shown a close-up of one of the Ghettobots and asked him, "Wait, did that one have gold bling in it's mouth?" Yes, yes it did. Ugh. This movie was sloppier than the first, and that's saying a lot. Oh, and if 5 robots swim to the bottom of the ocean, kill one of their group for parts to revive another, who many swim back to the surface? 5-1+1 = 6. Don't believe me? Watch the submarine scene again. Sure it's a blooper, but bloody fuck it's simple subtraction followed by addition. NO ONE caught this in the script? All the dialogue in this scene was probably on one page and everyone involved missed it? What, was Bay humping Megan Fox's leg on-set?

Like you said, there were many things wrong with this movie, too many to bother listing. I honestly regret having seen this in theaters. My good ear is still ringing. Lots of flashy-flashy boom-boom, usually a good thing in an action flick, but this was just a mess. I should have just waited for it to come out on DVD.

29. Likely to break a trillion? Not likely. Likely to break a billion maybe.
Even if the entire planet was it 7 billion people at $10 ea = $70 Billion.

Every person on the planet would need to see it 15 times to be $1T. :)

(It does show how screwed we are w/ national debt & deficits & bailouts).

It would take 1000x transformer 2 movies to equal just one $1Trillion and we would need 11x that to pay off the national debt. So if we nationalized paramount and the movie was free to make and all of the revenue went to pay down the national debt, in 11,000 years of blockbusters we will have paid it off.

Oh well folks, thanks for your wonderful assessments of the film, especially those of you who haven't even gone to see it. And for those who can't just suspend your disbelief and enjoy something that doesn't have 18th century clothing and English actors, OH WELL.

This thread proved one point, DU basically just hates everything.

I tend to love action movies--even some crappy ones.
