Man In The Mirror lyrics

Ooh ooh ooh aah
Gotta make a change
For once in my life
It's gonna feel real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right

As I turned up the collar on
A favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin' my mind
I see the kids in the street
With not enough to eat
Who am I to be blind
Pretending not to see their needs

A summer's disregard
A broken bottle top
And a one man's soul
They follow each other
On the wind ya' know
'Cause they got nowhere to go
That's why I want you to know

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change, yey
Na na na, na na na, na na na na oh ho

I've been a victim of
A selfish kinda love
It's time that I realize
There are some with no home
Not a nickel to loan
Could it be really pretending that they're not alone

A willow deeply scarred
Somebody's broken heart
And a washed out dream
(Washed out dream)
They follow the pattern of the wind ya' see
'Cause they got no place to be
That's why I'm starting with me

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that change

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
(Man in the mirror, oh yeah)
I'm asking him to change his ways, yeah
(Change)
No message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make the change
You gotta get it right, while you got the time
'Cause when you close your heart
(You can't close your, your mind)
Then you close your mind

(That man, that man, that man)
(That man, that man, that man)
(With the man in the mirror, oh yeah)
(That man you know, that man you know)
(That man you know, that man you know)
I'm asking him to change his ways
(Change)
No message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself then make that change

(Na na na, na na na, na na na na)
Ooh
Oh yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
(Na na na, na na na, na na na na)

Oh no
Oh no, I'm gonna make a change
It's gonna feel real good
Sure mon
(Change)
Just lift yourself
You know, you got to stop it yourself
(Yeah)
Oh
Make that change
(I gotta make that change today, oh)
(Man in the mirror)
You got to, you got to not let yourself, brother oh
Yeah
You know that
(Make that change)
(I gotta make that make me then make)
You got, you got to move
Sure mon, sure mon
You got to
(Stand up, stand up, stand up)
Make that change
Stand up and lift yourself, now
(Man in the mirror)
Make that change
(Gonna make that change, sure mon)
(Man in the mirror)
You know it, you know it, you know it, you know
(Change)
Make that change

2. Michael in his way was about changing us and lifting us up.
And he did, in his song. And he will like all the great ones before him will live in his song . . . perhaps forever if not a long, long time.

4. This is the one song that will remind me
...of a life that was spent in the public eye - forever trying to figure out who he was - while we all watched, often bewildered. Perhaps MJ was too far gone to follow the advice in this song. I'm glad this song is becoming a significant part of his legacy.

11. Michael was communning with the words of Jesus
And expressing that communing in his songs. Michael may not have known who he was - but who of us really knows who we really are - but Michael KNEW what the hell he was doing and he was communing with the words of Jesus and expressing that communing in his songs.

And Michael KNEW this was what he was doing and as long as he did it successfully . . . he was happy . . . and HAPPIEST! when he was on the stage doing this . . . he was ALIVE like indescribably delicious . . . there was no emptiness in side, he was FULL with his communion with the WORD of Jesus and expressing it on stage.

I know only a few are gonna get this and the rest are gonna think I'm off the wall.

That's all right . . . the few of us . . . we understand.

8. "Man in the Mirror" live at the 1988 Grammy Awards with a Gospel Choir

Has been REMOVED from youtube and metcafe. I watched this vid over the weekend; something's up. This one was the best where Michael got down on his knees. There are other's but Michael put his heart and soul into this rendition and it has been removed.

I wonder why?

So unrelying

I'm such a swine baby
All down the line daddy
I hate your kind baby
So unreliable

A hot buzz baby
He's one of us baby
Another drug baby

Kicked in the face baby
You hate your race baby

Just in me
Put all your trsut in me
You're doin' morphine

Go'on babe

Relax
This won't hurt you
Before I put it in
Close your eyes and count to ten
Don't cry
I won't convert you
There's no need to dismay
Close your eyes and drift away

Demerol
Demerol
Oh God he's taking demerol
Demerol
Demerol
Oh God he's taking demerol

He's tried
Hard to convince her
To be over what he had
Today he wants it twice as bad
Don't cry
I won't resent you
Yesterday you had his trust
Today he's taking twice as much

Demerol

18. No, it's a song about human frailty. It's a song about a guy that has looked
into the mirror.

19. I saw him perform this song live, and I will never forget it
The whole number was powerful, but there was this one moment in his dance that was just beyond all things I've seen, it was more than the sum of the parts, it was magic. It was really something, my friends, it was really a sight to see. I'll remember it until I die. But I will never be sure of what I saw. It seemed as if he fell into pieces, and came together again. It was sublime. It was poetic. It was impossible. He did it live onstage.
