How do you go about finding a local bank? I've used one for 6 years and just found out it's been acquired by CapitalOne. I thought PNC was local, but discovered it covers 13 states. Is there any such thing as a local bank???

1. Ask around. drive around & look for small banks with a few branches |
|
and then talk to the branch manager.
I love my "little" bank.. I can call them and they recognize my voice:)

2. There are around 8000 banks in the United States |
|
That's the number of separate corporations -- the number of branches is way higher.
Most banks are pretty small, with one to 10 branches.
Of course, the FDIC has been closing about 5 of these a week for insolvency.
