Pro-Marijuana Ad Pushes Pot As Calif. Budget Fix

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― A pro-marijuana group launched a television advertisement Wednesday in California advocating legalization and taxation of the drug to help solve the state's budget woes.

The 30-second spot, airing Wednesday and paid for by the Marijuana Policy Project, features a retired 58-year-old state worker who says state leaders "are ignoring millions of Californians who want to pay taxes."

"We're marijuana consumers," says Nadene Herndon of Fair Oaks, who says she began using marijuana after suffering multiple strokes three years ago. "Instead of being treated like criminals for using a substance safer than alcohol, we want to pay our fair share."

2. I agree with your second sentence but we're already paying
an astronomical "sin" tax via corporate and police intimidation, arrest, confiscation, prosecution, corruption of law enforcement, enrichment of organized crime, disenfranchisement of the American People from their government and the cost of housing for the world record number of people behind bars here in the land of the free.

3. I agree. We would not just benefit from taxing marijuana--the benefits of decriminalization
would go far beyond that, to freeing us from the ENORMOUS costs of investigating, arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning millions of people for use of this harmless--and in some ways very beneficial--PLANT.

I'll bet Grover Norquist didn't envision decriminalization of marijuana as a consequence of his rightwing conspiracy of "drowning government in the bathtub." Nope, he wanted to loot Social Security, Medicare, Medical, public schools and universities, public parks and everything else we hold in common, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Overseer of that series of deaths in California, and Bush/Cheney nationwide.

It sure would be a great and wonderful irony to see marijuana save it all!

11. I guess you haven't been to California lately.
Nobody is waiting for legalization. The economies of Humboldt and Mendocino counties are probably two-thirds dependent on marijuana revenues right now. The state of California might want to tap into that revenue stream.

5. Works for me!
I'll take any reasoning for legalization out there. I dont care how its rationalized, it's long past time to get this done.

9. Great idea, but
horrible ad.
That's the best spokesperson they could find?
Someone who stares weirdly off to the side in a dull room?
Everything
As a commercial editor, I am gonna have to email and offer my services since I consider this an extremely important issue in California.
Thanks for the link!
