Arizona GOP state senator Sylvia Allen : Earth is 6,000 years old
Transcript:

I can't say enough how it's time that we get beyond and start focusing on this technology we have and move forward into the future so that our grandchildren can have the same lifestyle we have.

This Earth's been hear 6,000 years -- and I know I'm going on and on and I'll shut up -- it's been here 6,000 years, long before anybody had environmental laws, and somehow it hasn't been done away with.

We need to get the uranium here in Arizona so this state can get the money from it and the revenues from it. It can be done safely and you'll never even know the mine was there when they're done.

So I am for this.

1. This stuff should be used during elections.
No reason to mock them for their 'beliefs'... simply exposing them should be enough.

The earth was here when I was a kid and I will not let her lie stand.

They're still wrong, but they're getting closer.

7. Like, the earth has been here 4.54 billion years
and the climate has changed numnerous times during that time period.

It's all there in the geological record. More recent climate change can be demonstrated via Antarctic Ice Core samples.

And people wonder why I think Palin could be elected president.

15. That geological record? Just God playing pranks on us
God's such a kidder, that whole geological record and carbon dating phenomenon and all the rest is just window dressing to gull the foolish. Only the tuned-in, wholly Christian Bible-believing folks like Ms. Allen know the Real Truth as revealed by God. So there!

8. How can you live in Arizona and think the earth is only 6.000 yrs old?
Look at all the dang layers in the Grand Canyon, lady. They had to be laid down, layer by layer, undergo lithification, and then be worn down by the Colorado River, layer by layer.

12. The Flood did all that, of course.
The wearing down, at least. The earth was created with those layers already in place. Every feature of the Grand Canyon can be explained by Creationism. There is othing whatsoever that suggests that the earth is older than 6000 years.

***********

See? Wasn't that easy? That's how you live in Arizona and think the earth is only 6000 years old. It's an act of will.

18. Best fundie explanation I've heard
is Kent Hovind's reason for the dearth of dinosaurs.

In Biblical days everybody lived a long time. Reptiles continue growing for as long as they live. Today, reptiles don't live long. Therefore, dinosaurs are still here, they're just not big anymore. If your pet lizard lived long enough, he'd be as big as a city bus. In other words, a dinosaur.

His shamings of Venomfangx were epic. And chickenshit Ray Comfort running from a debate, ostensibly because he wants $100K to go to Dawkin's foundation as a requisite, was a beautiful farce.

34. Lol
The roving Muslim hit squads who were going to kill his family... TWICE! Too fucking much...

The bottom line is the brat lied. Often. To everybody, including his supporters. His dishonesty got him tangled in so many public brouhahas, even his parents got sick of it. And that was really the end of VenomfangX, when his folks commandeered his site and put up notice that they didn't like what he was doing and were shutting it down.

But he's not actually gone, the little attention hound can't stay away...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wajId83g4XU

...and he still can't stop lying.

40. Ah yes, "Creation with apparent age". Also explains the belly buttons on Adam and Eve.
And of course the fossils in each and every one of those layers. Actually the only defensible position for a Young Earther to take, imo. Of course once you go down that route, who is to say that the earth wasn't created last week?

44. KO made a good point last night - re: uranium series dating
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 08:44 AM by jpak
Ms. Allen wants to mine uranium to fuel nucular power plants.

The reason uranium is used for nucular fuel is because it's fissionable.

Uranium is fissionable due to the properties of its nucleus.

Those same properties determine uranium's decay rate.

That decay rate is measureable and has been determined repeatedly.

That decay rate is very slow - the half-life of 238U is 4.47 billion years, U235 is 704 million years - and is used by geologists to date the formation of ancient rocks and meteorites - i.e. to determine the age of the Earth's formation.

Ms. Allen can't have it both ways

Checkmate creationist dumbasses
