US Soldier Among Several Killed in Afghanistan

GHAZNI, Afghanistan (AFP) — A US soldier was killed in action in Afghanistan on Wednesday, the military said, also reporting the death of a civilian woman and several militants in a mounting insurgency.

The trooper was killed in action while on a "combat reconnaissance patrol" in the southeastern province of Farah, a region which sees regular insurgent attacks, the US military said in a statement.

His death took to 13 the number of international soldiers killed since Monday, highlighting the growing threat faced by troops in Afghanistan where they are fighting Taliban rebels.
