A Rally To Stop Socialized Medicine? Where Are The Rallies FOR Healthcare Reform?
Edited on Wed Jul-08-09 02:07 PM by TomCADem
The only rally I am aware of is the one on July 30th in DC by Healthcare Now, which is not receiving much coverage in the media. In sharp contrast, you throw together a few hundred people and display tea bags, and you get instant media coverage:

Waving an American flag as huge as his distaste for the Obama administration, Sunnyvale trucker Dirck Jackman took his anger to the edge of Winchester Boulevard on Sunday afternoon to tell Washington to keep its hands off America's health care system.

"They're trying to nationalize health care, but I like it just the way it is," said Jackman, one of hundreds of protesters who showed up for a "Tea Party Patriots" rally against the government's health care reform efforts.

The equation was clear: More government equals less individual choice. And to prove it, Jackman showed that all politics are ultimately personal.

"My mother had two cataracts removed, two new knees and a new hip, and she's up and running at 79," he said. "With a single-payer system, she'd still be a long waiting list. And I don't want to be on a waiting list when I get to be her age."

For several hours, the sidewalks around the intersection at Stevens Creek and Winchester boulevards were clogged with crowds estimated at as many as 1,000 people, about a fifth of whom were part of a counter-demonstration. The "tea party" demonstrators decried plans by the White House and Congress to overhaul the nation's troubled health care system

16. You're right
There's one here in NOLA too, at Landrieu's office. If not for this employment thing, I'd be there with bells on.

4. I'm just guessing but it sounds like "mother" has Medicare

13. She does have Medicare like all seniors have. Insurers cannot give
seniors coverage instead of Medicare. They can give supplemental insurance though for the co-pays. So mother's health care was 80% paid for with government single payer health coverage.

10. There have been rallies in my area not covered by the media and I suspect
that would be the truth across the country. However, all the tea bag rallies both locally and nationally have been covered. Well, we know who runs the media, the corporations who benefit from allowing one sided coverage of news and the propaganda it enables. The big healthcare protest held last month in Washington DC barely got TV coverage on C-SPAN. It's a shame but if we can't figure out a way to take the media back to some unbiased reporting of news based on journalism, we will continue to be propagandized by those who control the air waves. Incidentally, we the people, own the airwaves. It seems we should be able to keep those who use it honest. So far any government agency who could do this hasn't stepped forward to do so.

15. Perfect Question. Now you know how the GOP will make a comeback
They are campaigning for 2012 right now. Our side as usual
remain clueless and poke fun.

Never forget the Republican Rout in the 90s.

18. Hopefully, The Media Is Getting Spammed With Notices About The Event
It seems that if you just show up with a tea bag pinned to your shirt, you get on the front page these days.

19. Only if you're Republican.
You know how it works. Half a dozen freeptards with teabags gets broadcast all over the cable news channels, especially FAUX Noise. Half a million progressives rallying for health care reform, or for an end to the Iraq War, who fill up the Washington Mall and block streets for miles gets blacked out by the media.
