Prediction time; who will be #45?
Okay, just for fun, who will be the next Prez?

It'll be fun to revisit years from now and see if anyone nailed it. Oh, and to keep this relatively lighthearted and out of the realm of morbid speculation, "Joe Biden" is not an acceptable answer.

(I'll give MY pick in a bit, but I'm still undecided so I have to think about it some more and read some of the answers given)

I think Brian Schweitzer would be great too. There are so many people who would be good candidates in
our party. Interesting thing about Brian Schweizer I just learned -- he speaks Arabic.

He and Mark Warner are less than a year apart in age, 9/55 and 12/54 respectively.

31. We have a winner
Few men wake up one morning and decide to run for president and most of them don't get very far unless they're comedians on a popular TV show (RIP, Pat Paulsen).

They're fast tracked in office as consortia of businesses and labor court them to run.

The best we can do is choose bankers over arms dealers, in other words.

cause we were being told that Steve Largent was going to be our next governor and all we had to do was shut up and go through the motions of electing him. Brad won and with him Oklahoma won big time. 39. A few things
Why is Joe Biden not an acceptable answer? It's not out of the realm of possibility that the Vice President will end up succeeding the President. FWIW, I don't think it will be him but stranger things have happened

Also I'd make the point that it is quite probable thaqt the next US President is someone whose name we are not familiar with and perhaps someone who is not a major player on the political scene yet. After all, whom out of all of us would have answered "Barack Obama" in response to a question on "who will be #44" in July 2001? Or for that matter in July 2004?

51. Well yeah, I understand your point but
he is pretty old and I believe he said he had no plans to run. anyway, sure if you think Biden in 2016 that's a different story, I just wanted to avoid the unthinkable, meaning he became President without running. ;-)

As for the "unknown" factor, that's part of why I brought up this thread...it would be interesting to see if anyone knows of some unknown/young politicians around who have some of that Barack Obama vibe to them. As I'm not currently residing in the States, it's hard to learn what's going on with local politics.

53. Here's how it will be:
All the flaccid, LIHOP "corporate government is just all right with me" will get a wake up call somewhere b/w the gas pump, the golf course and the pension fund.

The actual working people who have been warning about it all along will get desperate enough to organize.

The bullshit "Blame Nader" bullshit of the 2000's will be focused on, as the scam that it was and the final nail in America's economic coffin that it was.

Corporations will be seen for the evil they perpetrate.

The anti-corporate spokesmodel will be revered.

Nader ages well.

...then in 2011 and 2012, the economy will be doing well enough to guarantee Obama a second term.... something like 7.5% unemployment on election day 2012.

By then... we'll be well on our way to transitioning to a green economy, we'll be out of Iraq, and the world will be a better place.

Despite all of the Obama hatred around here recently, I'm sure everyone agrees that he's no dummy. He must realize that if he can't convincingly say that he's turned the economy around and gotten us out of Iraq by the next election then he's not going to get a second term.
