It's time for an AMAZING COMMERCIAL break....
(cross posted from the lounge)
This commercial does in four minutes what many feature length films fail to do in two hours; delivers strong characters, tells a tight story, moves and inspires...and you won't see it on American television:

2. Imagine if it were for an American audience; there would be product
placement in nearly every shot and it would be 30 seconds long...with a pop score!

3. Just Awesome. That broken violin just broke my heart. Great story.
And, for Pantene, I must admit that the only thing that broke my concentration on the story was seeing her hair.

On stage I thought, "that hair is perfect, wow."

But never lost the story thread.

Great work, thanks for posting!

as well as what the street performer tells her. A two tissue commercial for hair care products!

21.  Pachelbel DAMNED FREAKIN' SPELL CHECK!!!!!
Someone needs to get a spell checker to check spellcheck.

(No, it was not DU's spell checker. I used my p.c.'s spellcheck.)

Correcting now if there is still edit time left.

27. A "bumblebee" story . . .
You know, bumblebees aren't suppose to be able to fly due to their body structure but they do . . . I always called our son a bumble bee. He had a condition called asymmetrical tonic neck reflex syndrome, it is something babies are born with but is suppose to disappear when they are a couple of months old. His didn't and he struggled all his life with simple tasks like writing, using scissors, couldn't slice and onion or peel an onion. He was also oxygen deprived at birth so he struggled with learning disabilities as well as being clumsy in general. But he was a kid with a wonderful heart, was always rescuing animals and people and bringing them home. He struggled with feeling that he wasn't as smart as other people and I would tell him that he just needed to look for the gifts God had given him and open them. One day he picked up a guitar and it was amazing. Within a few months, he could play like someone who had played for years. Hands that couldn't slice an onion could fly up and down the neck of a guitar. I couldn't figure out why until one day when I snapped a picture of him out playing on our back porch. Eyes tightly closed, the strain of making hands do something they didn't want to do, showing in his arm muscles, but he was playing with amazing beauty because it was his soul playing not his hands. And that is where true music comes from. He was killed in a car accident May 30th this year. The siggy picture is of him playing. All I can say is that he was an inspiration to many, many people and I will continue until my dying day to say that we need to stop trying to fit square peg kids into round holes in our public education system. He was a frustrated kid until we took him out and home schooled him. Then he found his gifts and the lives of many, many people will never be the same because of him.

32. My oldest son was up for a visit; he just left yesterday.
I only get to see him a couple of times a year at this stage in our lives, as we are 1100 miles apart.

He's a guitar player, too. He spent some time talking about his current frustrations, and what direction he wanted his life to take.

I told him that I didn't care what he did, as long as he was happy, and that I have only one goal for him: he must outlive me.

Because I don't think I could survive outliving him.

My heart breaks reading your post.

I'm a teacher. As long as public education is forced to remain a factory system, it's hard to ensure that ALL the square pegs have a comfortable setting. I'm glad your son got to shine during his time with you.

28. The Rocky Balboa story

Awesome.

I have to admit when I first heard the music I was disappointed that is what Pachebell's Canon, but I actually got shivers at the climax. I tried to dismiss the shivers as due to the AC, but when I watched it again, I got shivers at the same part.

Damnit, Pachebell still gets to me.

33. Oh Fer Christ Sake
I didn't like it, why is that a flame?

Must I post something positive because everyone else did? If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?

I'm a total cynic and sappy stuff like that makes me wanna gag. Yeah, I know, I'm a heartless bitch, but with good reason. I was stricken with polio at 19 months old. Life with a disability is more difficult than you can imagine on several fronts your entire life and can make one cranky and cynical.

The ending with her Pantene hair flashing about was by far, the best part

She's not really playing the violin, nor is she deaf, but her hair ROCKED!

and...I used too work in advertising - the spot IMO was way too long. I wouldn't want to see it more than once, knowing I would lose another 4 minutes of my life again, vs the usual 30 seconds.

Peace sister Lorien.

38. My ex-sig other has spina bifida
He once said that dealing with his handicap (and it was a handicap, not a euphemistic 'challenge') was a 24/7 job.
He did have some other issues that exacerbated it...and these were under his control, had he chosen to TAKE control...
but he did have a point.

Lemme state for the record he's "Ex" because of HIS decision, not mine...

37. As someone who played violin from fourth grade until my violin was stolen in college, I spotted
right away that the girl had no real knowledge of how to play a violin, but it was still a great little story.

And as someone who used to create advertising for a theme park, I thought it was sheer genius. People will remember that commercial. And because it was such an unexpected type of commercial, they wil remember that it was a commercial for a hair product and might even remember the prodcut.

If I ever get to creat advertising again, I'll remember this.

I am sorry for your disability, but, having one myself, having a blind sister, a deaf stepson, and having known many other people with disabilities, I know that a disability is not what makes one a cynic. It is how one responds to one's diablility and everything that goes with it.
