Poll question: Do you care what the names of the people reading the news are? |
|
I believe that the computer generated voice that the national weather radio use is good enough for newscasts. They seem to want to tell us what their names are 10 or so times every newscast or every 30 minutes on the cable news. They think it's important that they have names and think we care what that name is.

1. I've never understood celebrity worship. |
|
But their seems to be little doubt that a vast segment of our society cares more about who you are than what you say or do.
IMO making news readers into celebrities has played a major part in the loss of journalistic skills and integrity.

2. I prefer the title "news reader" to anchor (or reporter). |
|
Hell, really that's all they are doing - reading off of a teleprompter or notes.

At the end of the broadcast, the voice can say "This is Walter Cronkite, and that's the way it is, July ninth, 2009."

4. If they're just reading who cares? If they are actually |

investigating and reporting, then they deserve a byline.

5. What is being reported can be transmitted by a digital voice, the reporter isn't needed to broadcast |
