GOP Senator: Obama the New Hitler
DeMint: America is ‘Where Germany Was Before World War II’
By David Weigel 7/9/09 9:42 AM

Last night, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) gave a short talk and Q&A at at the National Press Club about his book “Saving Freedom.” DeMint told a room of around 100 people about a conversation he’d had with an Iranian immigrant who was panicking about the surge of government spending and control under President Obama and the Democrats. Americans should listen to immigrants like her, said DeMint.

****They understand socialism. They understand tyrants. But none of us have ever had it here. We don’t even know what it looks like. Part of what we’re trying to do in “Saving Freedom” is just show that where we are, we’re about where Germany was before World War II where they became a social democracy. You still had votes but the votes were just power grabs like you see in Iran, and other places in South America, like Chavez is running down in Venezuela. People become more dependent on the government so that they’re easy to manipulate. And they keep voting for more government because that’s where their security is. When our immigrants get here, they’re worried, because they see it happening here.

DeMint worried that it was the “eleventh hour” for freedom, but he disputed a question from a man who wondered if America was ripe for another revolution. “The reason I’m convinced we can do this in a civilized way is that I’ve seen, on a number of issues, that when people get informed and want to change their government, the government will change.”

1. Isn't that nice?
But let an entertainer opine that she's ashamed that President Stupidhead was from Texas, and all hell breaks loose on the Right.

31. It's time to get badass. No more touchy feely commies. Or they revolt.
I want a clear message put out to treasonous hicks, and senators too. You FUCK with us, and we will wipe you OUT. They are getting all ammo-ey. They talk of our cowardice. Our lack of heart. They are being fed stright from the uncut rush points, from the GOP elite. If they DO somehow get ahold of power, you can be asured, they learned to not relinquish power. Should Bush have escalated things, he certainly could have instituted martial law, and installed an interim McCain, Palin gov. The Iran scene is not lost on them either. The lesson THEY learned is, you absolutely CAN suppress a populist mass movement after a thrown election. All you need is show of force. We had BETTER bang a few knuckleheads together or we will be doing it daily. SOON>

2. The invocation of Godwin's Law against a sitting Senator
should be grounds for impeachment, censure, whatever will get him out of all his perks and powers.

DeMint is trying to be like Bachmann, I guess, vying for the title of "Biggest Dingaling in the Halls of Congress."

7. Remember when any Democrat saying such a thing would be forced to apologize?
Or resign? Or face a three-day barrage of pundits interviewing each other, discussing why that Democrat hated America and our president?

*sigh*

.

16. Senator Richard Durbin comes to mind
He made an offhand comparison between Bush and Hitler (2007?) at one point and the Repukes and the corporate media went crazy about it for a day or two before he finally ended up apologizing.

Acceptance of anything that is government administered makes you a slave to the government. Go figure.

Gee... It sounds like our former Republican Government set up fascism on us, and now they want to blame the Democrats for it.

Ah, now I understand. Republican tactic to attack their opponent for something they are guilty of doing and being.

That Obama is somehow 'Adolph Hitler'

This is what believing in nothing does for a group of uninformed people.

This is mainly being perpetuated by Glen Beck

32. I call it "copycat and projection".
They're basically copying what the "fringe" far-left said about Bush for the last 8 years but they take it into the RW mainstream and project it onto Obama instead.

It's an easy tactic for people who have no imagination or ideas of their own (and no shame).

Sing it everybody! (to the tune of the 'Dr Pepper' song)

"I'm like Hitler-

-She's like Hitler
-He's like Hitler
-Wouldn't you like to be like Hitler, too?
(chorus)
-Be like Hitler

25. It's interesting that the Repukes can't seem to go all the way
I know that they probably realize that they could be arrested for trying to incite revolution/treason if they literally actually called for it but I mean, if they think that the situation is really THAT dire, that Obama really is a Hitler-esque tyrant, and that votes are now nothing more than "power grabs", I would think that they should be unafraid and unapologetic about just coming right out and saying that we need to revolt.
He seems to undercut his entire paranoid rant by continuing to maintain that the government will change (presumably peacefully?) when "people get informed". That sort of thing doesn't really happen in the kind of Hitler-esque dictatorships that I think he's talking about us already being under. If the "teabaggers", the "bane" of Obama and his liberal minions, are still able to show up for their protests without getting immediately hauled off to jail (or Gitmo), then I'm wondering exactly how DeMint really thinks we (they) are being repressed? I'm sure he feels pretty powerless right now, being one of forty Repuke US Senators left but none of them have been hauled off to jail (or Gitmo) and DeMint is apparently still free to make such ridiculous anti-Obama/anti-Democrat rants,so..................where's the repression?????

I think they just throw out the word "social" and expect everyone to believe it implies tyranny.

People are "easy to manipulate" while voting, but can "get informed and want to change their government." Seems to me that he's encouraging "changing government" by means other than democratic elections -- but maybe that's just the DeMint-ia speaking.
