The near future for Democrats |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 11:35 AM by ThomWV
This is my opinion, just wanted to say that for those who demand a link for every dam thing they read. Look elsewhere, no links here.
If the Democrats in Congress do not get very busy and pass legislation the effects of which are so immediate and obvious that even brain-dead middle America can see them and approve then the Republicans will at least hold their own in the 2010 election and possibly increase their numbers. Its a horrible irony actually, that those who obstruct progress will be returned to do more damage unless those who are obstructed stand up. In other words if Democrats in Congress don't grow a pair they'll soon see the results.

1. The Pukes are in very bad shape for 2010, especially in the Senate |
|
Sadly, there's just no incentive for the Dems to wake from their comas. Hell, they're already acting like they don't control Congress. How would losing a few seats change anything?

6. Swings in the public mood have become so extreme that 16 months is a long time |
|
I think it is one of the more visible signs of our decay that swings in the public mood have become both severe and frequent. You know, like any broken system.

I think people were just about writing off the Democrats in late 2004 and most of 2005. If we don't get our act together we're looking at a repeat of 1994 - or a 2006 (in reverse).

2. The Democrats were given a mandate to CHANGE things |
|
these things included social issues--like DADT and DOMA, as well as to fix the financial system, end the war--but most importantly to FIX healthcare. Overwhelmingly, the American public backs a public plan of some sort. If the Democrats don't start delivering on the campaign rhetoric, we will lose and we will lose BIG.

10. Healthcare is the litmus test |
|
They have to pass a Medicare for everyone type option or the Reagan democrats will just walk away from the process entirely.
I am not sure that anything can be done with the structurally flawed, unsound economy. (Essentially, all of the world's economic systems are based on a premise of scarcity and have evolved to deal with issues of scarcity. What is screwing up our economy now is not scarcity but overabundance. Meanwhile, we are still trying to use a distribution which has scarcity as a fundamental premise and ironically, the system itself is creating the illusion and sensation of scarcity while the system as a whole is suffering from overcapacity on a factor of somewhere between 3 and 50; i.e., we may have 50 times as much stuff as we need to have the same standard of living that we are enjoying.)

3. They have done so little for so long... |
|
they are afraid to put their foot in the water. But the time has come for them to dive in. It's time for a little courage. The country needs it.

4. I think we need to see a time line from those who demand action from the administration and Congress |
|
Just what is it you want from now until the next elections and when do you think it should be in place? Maybe you want it all next week.

7. The things I want have been swept off the table - investigations, indictments, arrests, trials |
|
When does our President Obama have those things planned for?

12. I think that those things would cost us votes in 2010. |
|
I want congress and the administration to concentrate on the economy and health care reform and energy and climate change.
If there are to be investigations let it be the justice department and get the hell off Obama's back for Christ's sake!

it's the only way we'll succeed- replace the people who don't want to change with ones who will.
