Recommend this thread if you think some will Unrecommend just for the hell of it |
|
That's my question: aren't there enough detractors here who make trouble for trouble's sake?
Maybe we should be flattered that the new system implies an assumption of adult behavior.
A local board I'm on has this Up or Down function -- not as Star Trekked as DU's interface, but still. Putting up a  seems passive/aggressive, since it doesn't reflect WHAT the person took issue with.
If we were sick of all the infighting over infighting over infighting over Michael Jackson, we were thinking the negativity was overbearing.
Who knew there was a problem with the "wrong" threads reaching the top of Greatest?
Well, let's give it at least as much time as we gave Obama to prove himself. :hi:

1. I'm not going to unrecommend although I don't agree with you.... |
|
however, I think it will take a little time for DUers to adjust to this new system. How about watching it play out a bit before we judge it?

2. What a perfect example of disagreeing with what you think I said and then saying what I said!!! |
|
:bounce:
Maybe we need to be licensed to carry "Un/Recommend."

14. I should have qualified my disagreement. It's plain that we agree on giving |
|
this some time. I disagree with the title of your post. I don't think people disagree for the sake of disagreeing.

3. Honestly in the long run this feature will serve it's purpose |
|
I'm tired of the DU homepage hijacked by a small group of folks who want to get their ideas forced on the DU page. You read those threads and it's filled with people who totally disagree and are annoyed it's on the home page.
Ultimately what will show up on the greatest/homepage are threads that have appeal to all DUers and not a small group. That doesn't mean that we can't start threads about our pet causes but sometimes they just aren't appropriate for the home page.
Perfect example - when the GOP tried to say Nancy knew all about the torture and was involved every step of the way. For a few DUers it was their chance to once again push the "Let's Dump Nancy" cause based solely on what turns out to be a lie by the GOP. People never read the article to see who were making those accusations and were all ready to dump on Nancy while promoting the Republican lie. THing is most of us realized it was a lie by the GOP; however, there were enough people to push that cause to the DU homepage. So why should those of us who read the article, realized that the GOP was trying to smear Pelosi not be allowed our voice in keeping that article off the DU home page.
If someone writes something that has broad appeal to all then those things will get on the DU home page. This feature will also nullify those annoying "K&R if you believe in ___________" threads. If it is something we all really believe in - then it'll get to the top on it's own.
As for this abuse, yeah that is something you'll probably see more in the lounge but most of that is just for fun and Lounge threads don't go to the greatest.

4. Points well taken. Questions: Who is "most of us?" Will abusers do it "just for fun" in Lounge only? |

5. You can't compare what happens in the lounge to what happens with the rest of DU |
|
I mean even I could see goofing off with it in the lounge, but when I post here outside of DU I take it pretty serious.

7. Abusers will do whatever they damn well please |
|
But if someone writes a great article and it's well received by all of DU - then that stuff will make it to the DU home page even if a few 'abusers' are mistreating the system.

11. Honestly I think there is room for improvement that would make this feature very useful |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 06:07 PM by LynneSin
and the first think would be to set it up so that you have to be at DU for so long and with so many posts until you can recommend a thread. Nothing unusual. If you haven't been exposed as a freeper by the time you've spent 3 months and DU and put like 250 posts on the board then you should be safe to vote. I also think that the <0 should just be zero at least in the Rec column to the right. <0 just calls out the thread more for abuse. Oh and instead of unrecommend just ask - "do you recommend this thread, "yes, no")

12. I appreciate your comments LynneSin |

Still a bit baffled by the "need" for this Greatest thing. Seems far more problems are caused by our resident disruptors and those who haven't "haven't been exposed as a freeper by the time you've spent 3 months and DU and put like 250 posts on the board." Those are the abusers who will rig this "voting" on top of their usual creepiness.

15. I just think if something is going to be on the greatest page... |
|
then both pro & con voices should have an opinion if it is worthy.
And I'm sure Skinner and Earl can see the votes - if they think it's being rigged by abusers they can set in

The DLC types are the minority here.
True democrats are the majority and we WILL find a way to wRECk their corporate threads.

16. then how can it backfire? |

And why do you assume this is something to help the DLCers. There are some crazy far leftwing posters out there too
But yeah, it's a DLC conspiracy that has ties with the Carlyle Group and Karl Rove. Fox News is behind it

10. I won't unrec your OP |
|
I intend to be scrupulous about not unreccing just because I think an OP is silly or because the author isn't someone I agree with or particularly esteem.
