Telling you that you're full of shit is NOT silencing you.

Today I have seen people invoke the founding fathers and cry "censorship" regarding the new policy. Here's a news flash, the founders occasionally challenged each other to DUELS over their disagreements. I wonder if Aaron Burr would prefer to have been "unrec'd" rather than shot dead.
Sure, some people have used the new feature in order to demonstrate their disapproval, not of a thread, but of the action being reported in the thread; but eventually this should shake out.
In the meantime, your thread may display the occasional <0.
But "SILENCED"? Shit, climb down off your cross, we need the nails.

1. It tickles me that nearly EVERY single thread out there is getting unrecommended to some degree...
...whereas the recommendation factor was used only sporadically in the past. How many threads on GD currently have a 0 rating, after all?

For now, it's a toy--people will get used to it eventually.

2. Free Speech 101 (as evinced in the Primaries)
You have the right to your opinion.

I have the right to tell you that your opinion is stupid.

You have the right to respond by telling me to eat shit for disagreeing with you.

I have the right to not care what you think.

Freedom of speech works both ways, disagreeing with another person, even forcefully, with use of logic or sophistry, is not denying the other person their freedom of speech, it is exercising yours.
